Saw in the other thread that a number of people on here straighten their hair, then just saw this article and thought I'd post it: <a href="http://healthland.time.com/2011/04/13/warning-getting-your-hair-straightened-could-be-hazardous-to-your-health/" target="_blank">http://healthland.time.com/2011/04/1...o-your-health/</a>

I don't get this... When people straighten their hair they use hair straighteners...<br><br>
These:<br><br><a class="spoiler-link H-spoiler-toggle" href="#"><strong>Warning: Spoiler!</strong> <span class="spoiler-help">(Click to show)</span></a><div class="spoiler-hidden"><img alt="" src="http://www.justbeautifully.co.uk/images/prod/babyliss-pro-220-hair-straighteners-main.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"></div>

Where on earth does Formaldehyde or any other chemicals fit into that? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/huh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""><br><br>

Are heat protection sprays what you're talking about? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/huh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

It's talking about chemical straightening procedures.<br><br>
Sort of like, yeah, you can use curlers or a curling iron every day to make curls... Or you can get a chemical perm.<br><br>
You can use flat irons every day to make your hair flat... Or you can get it chemically straightened.

I remember seeing that on the news. Devotees were in wearing gas masks to have that done. Crazy!!

that's really popular here and the stylists have taken to wearing masks and having the clients wear them during the treatment.

Creepy.<br><br>
Yeah, I straighten my hair because there's this really annoying curl in the front that I despise, and I can barely work or type or do homework or schoolwork while it rears its ugly...hair in my face, but I use a heat straightener, no chemical crap.

Some people go to extreme lengths for aesthetics. Me...I just get a #2 haircut all around. No need to straighten or perm or anything and I cut my own hair...so no need for hair salons/barbers at all! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

I am a hairdresser and will not even learn how to do that.<br><br><br>
I am a strictly cut and color hairdresser though. I do not do any chemical retexturizing because the smell makes me sick.

I miss having chemically relaxed hair that i could heat straighten; it was nice to be able to brush my hair without experiencing pain.
