Well, I'm not a seasoned veteran veggie, I did change my ways yesterday... literally.... But my dad said the normal, where do you get your protein from, and his gf being the nicest told me about vitamins and things ( I already knew) My dad out of the blue says, it doesn't matter because in a couple of weeks you'll be chowing down on cheeseburgers.
I told my fiance what he said, and he laughed, then told me, yeah, I'd be surprised if you last 3 weeks. That hurt. Really it did. He knows how much I care for animals, and he said that to me! Ugh!

They told me they support me, but doubt I will stick with it. Way to have confidence eh?

darth veggie, don't let it get you down. While for some people vegetarianism is temporary, for others it is far more than "just a phase." Believe it or not, even after seven years of veg*nism, I still sometimes have people tell me I'll go back to eating meat sooner or later. True, I might, but they might also become vegetarians. They don't like hearing that, heh.

I notice you live in Ohio. So do I. Make sure to check out the Ohio thread under the local forums to see if you live near any restaurants or stores others have mentioned.

yeah, it takes a long time for people to take you serious, and even then, after years maybe, there are some people who still dont take you seriously. But dont give up, who cares what they say, your not giveing up meat for them your giveing it up for the animals. Im proud of you! Im proud of anyone who makes the decision to go veggie. Its better all around. Don't let the people around you make you quit, Most people dont get much support, I know i didnt, in fact people still dont support me. There will always be the people who try and bring you down. Dont let them, Its your decision and I hope you stick with it.

Thanks GC. I know,it sounds corny, but when I saw Meet Your Meat, I was seriously sickened. Today, I saw The Earthlings, and I can't imagine eating something that once grazed and frolicked. I see meat in the store, and I see little cow heads mooing in pain.

Its not corny, I refuse to even watch meet your meat. I watched part of a peta video on fur farming and that was enough for me. I didnt even watch the whole thing. They started skining foxes alive and that was enough for me.

Yeah, when i go to the store I see cows and pigs too. Its so sad.

If you need any extra motivation, just bet them that you can last a year. Knowing that you're aiming to prove someone wrong can be highly motivating.

I haven't watched Meet Your Meat or any of those, either. I hadn't heard about those things until I came after, and by then, I'd already made my decision. I don't need graphic details and nightmares to convince me that killing animals is wrong.

I've made it about 5 minutes into meet your meat and haven't even tried to view earthlings. I just feel way too sad.

On the topic though my Mum said to me the other day while telling her I need a new food processor that I should hold off on buying one because this is probably just a phase I'm going through and I shouldn't waste my money
She of all people KNOWS how much I do and have always loved animals.

But anyway, I'll prove them wrong

My father would have said that to me ... but we haven't spoken in years. I was lucky enough to not be surrounded by dumb people. Everyone took me seriously.

Now they're all angry at me for it ... but that's a whole 'nother issue right there.

Over time people will not only recognize your dedication, they'll respect it.

I've been a vegetarian for 14+ years, and my mom no longer calls it a phase. Fortunately, I went vegetarian after I left home, and they know I'm the stubborn type, so I didn't have to deal with the problems a lot. Even my friends are used to it by now.

It's sad when the people you love don't have any faith in you. But really the only thing that matters is the faith you have in yourself. Turn their negitivity towards you into inner positivity and try not to let it get you all discouraged. I think people say things like that because they don't have faith in themselves to make such a big lifestyle change.

Anyway, you have us here at vb to cheer you on!!
