I plan to do a lot of traveling in the next couple of years. I want to see the world, but I want to do it as inexpensively as possible.

I'm lucky in that I have a really flexible schedule and can take off at a moments notice, should an exceptional deal pop up.

Anyone have any tips or favorite bargain sites?

I thought about trading homes, but I'm just not comfortable with it. I don't want to couch surf, or stay in a hostel, I want my own room and bath, but I don't mind if it's tiny or mediocre, though safety is very important to me.

I found this helpful. http://www.kiplinger.com/features/ar...avel.html?si=1

Ummm a tip, yeah: If you book a room at a cheap motel, don't eat the "mint" on the pillow, especially if you see it moving.
