I have recently become a vegetarian ( been 1 month) and I noticed when I eat alot of cheese or maybe butter I get sick. A couple weeks ago my mom made homemade Mac & cheese I ate it then got sick. The other morning I ate an egg and cheese sandwich and then got sick. Today I ate pizza and garlic bread and got sick. My parents seem to think its because im not eating meat, I'm just wondering of this is normal when stop eating meat?

Never thought of that, I am able to eat a bowl of cereal or even a grilled cheese ( no butter & only one piece of cheese) without any problems. It's just really weird.

By "sick" what do you mean? Are you vomiting?

You may have too much fat in your diet. Too much fat will make you have the runs.

I am very curious as to why your parents would think not eating something that is bad for you would make you sick. Meat is not a healthy food for the most part. It is the opposite; meat can make you have severe cardiovascular issues. This is why so many cardiologists are now recommending a vegan diet free of all animal products to patients. I find it laughable that people automatically blame not eating meat for every ailment in a vegetarian's diet. Sprain your foot? It's because you aren't eating meat. Get strep throat, it's b/c you aren't eating meat. Omni's will find every lame reason they can as to why something is related to not eating meat while ignoring their own ailments that are caused by animal products.

My parents think I'm "weird" for not eating meat so they blame every issue I have on vegetarianism. I think it's just the whole lactose intolerance all the symptoms are there and it only occurs whe I eat dairy products.

Do you eat fruits and Veggies and whole grains also? I used to get sick on a big meat eating diet, I even tested with anemia twice or so while eating loads of meat about 4 -6 years ago. So meat isn't a healthy food. Meat is something if you eat loads of it will give you problems.
That is why I turned Veg because of my health issues.

Yeah, I know I'm not on a 100% proper diet but I'm not eating unhealthy. I eat fruits, veggies, watch my sugar, whole wheat bread, veggie burgers and also only drinking water or diet green tea. I haven't really had any pasta in awhile though. I don't really think it has anything to do with not eating meat because I have never been a huge meat person.

because normal green tea has too many calories?

Anyway, I've cut the amount of dairy I consume right back. Had a really cheesy meal the other week, my insides did not thank me.

I've basically cut out all dairy but when I do have something like cheese pizza, I get tummy pains and it's not fun. I think non dairy is much easier on the body!

Meat in reasonable quantities is not necessarily bad for you.
I ate too much, I had problems, I now eat none, I don't have the problems.
Had I used meat as the recommended part of the diet, I would have been fine.

exaggerating facts is not going to convince people to change their eating habits.

Are you lactose intolerant to a minor degree, but began eating a ton more cheese since going veg, and now you're getting sick because of how much MORE dairy your eating? Most people on the planet are lactose intolerant to a degree.

Do you eat more dairy now your veggie than you used too? It could be down to an intolerance that is now being aggrivated more now if you are eating more. That's what happened to me, I also had issues with bread and pasta but didn't eat them much so didn't worry. When I stopped eating meat I found I ate more and got sick. Last month I had a test for food intolerances and have several including wheat

Nope I would say I have been eating less diary products since going veg. Ever since I made this thread I have not been eating diary products and feel normal again. Although today I ate like 3 spoonfuls of mashed potatoes but still feeling fine. My parents seem to just think it's a coincidence and I should eat diary products. I don't think it's a coincidence though.

I was jealous of people with lactose intolerance as a kid. I don't like dairy and all cheese tastes like mold. *blech* I now have kids that love cheese. God help me.
