Yes. I have friends who are trapped over there right now. There are whaling ships on top of houses in the cities. There will NOT be any fishing happening for a while, it is not pretty over there.<br><br>
Unfortunately all of the dolphins that were in the captivity pens in Taiji were killed, as the waves hit them against the rocks.<br><br>
I will try to find you some links, but I know all of this for certain.

But what about the thousands of land animals that died in Japan? The whaling ships can't exactly be called a silver lining, considering all the loss.

I wouldn't say silver lining, I would say appropriate.

unfortunately, according to the Sea Shepherd site, the whaling fleet is safe<br><br><div class="quote-container"><span>Quote:</span>
<div class="quote-block">The Japanese whaling fleet is still about a week out from arriving back in Japan and thus was not impacted by the earthquake and the tsunami.</div>

if they had been destroyed that's about the only good thing I could have imagined from this disaster

I was thinking more for future years. If the ships were on the tops of houses right now, I'd be a happy panda.

What about the family who's house it was?<br>
Whaling is horrible - but come on, show some compassion for all of those whose have been affected by the earthquake.

That's exactly how I feel. How would YOU feel if a whaling boat was on top of your house, especially if it was damaged by an earthquake or tsunami?

Well, if it was already damaged by an earthquake or a tsunamy, I don't think the ship would have been the determining factor of my destroyed house, because lets face it, if there was a ship on my home, chances are it was pretty ****ed even with out the ship.<br><br>
So, I would think "Well, my house was ****ed anyway, at least they wont kill whales with this anymore."

since the earthquake/tsunami happened people are pissing me off even more....people are so hypocritical!! or even discussing the movie ''the cove" they tell you how sad it is and how evil japanese people are. You hear them say "ohh its karma that this happened to the japanese because of the many whales/dolphins they kill..they deserve it"<br>
BUT once i bring up the fact that millions of animals are killed each day across the globe and how their decisions support this.. then all of a sudden im wrong, and its a different story?? pleease!!<br>
since when did it become 'OK' to save certain animals but others its alright to kill in the millions. or they even argue that dolphins are smarter.<br>
supposedly pigs are smarted than a 3 yo human..but we dont go eating human babies..or do we?<br><br>
Is there anyone else feeling this way??

Pretty much everyone on this board would agree with you, and there are thousands of us. So don't worry, you're not alone <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

Millions are killed but are still preserved that they won't face extinction. If the Japanese were able to farm Whales, then most people would probably be ok with it.

How on earth would you go about <i>farming whales</i>? You realise how huge they are and how much space they need???

I don't think he/she said that they could farm whales, but "IF" they could.

I still don't think people would agree. Whales don't have that "they're just farm animals" thing going for them, they're not dependent on us humans and it's not even the same as people saying it's okay for Inuit to kill seals because there's little else to eat. Humans just like whales and dolphins for some reason and I think the idea would flop just as it would if there were tiger farms to make tiger steak or something.
