I submitted my last cupcake pic today to Tastespotting, and probably willl make an acct with foodgawker tomorrow for fun.

Mojo- I think you should too!

anyway, I was going to suggest, that using their sites, and searching "vegan" or "Vegetarian" in their search boxes, is a great way of coming up with new foods to make, and new food blog sites to potentially explore-posted with beautiful pictures! There are supposed to be recipes listed on the sites, so may be a really good way of expanding the repertoire of recipes.

Also, if you like cupcakes, Foodgawker's vegan cupcakes search is bigger than Tastespottings. Pretty much all use recipes from VCTOTW. but it's kind of neat to see how people decorate and frost them!

Thanks, I'll give it a look. I was working on setting up a vegan food photo blog today and was going to ask about other places I could post photos.

well you don't get to just post food picks. They have to approve and choose your image. It's pretty limited, and they have to be really good. Take a look and see what's submitted already. I've read on another site, that tastespotter is easier to get accepted but what might be rejected at one, may get accepted at another. Could really increase your blog traffic flow!

if anyone is a food blogger, I want to you to know, that this site can drive huge amts of people to your site! I had 152 unique visitors in the past 24 hours, with 192 page loads, from 23 countries!!! That's huge, and then with that I had a whole bunch of stumble upon likes too....so, then I had to go and get registered there and figure that all out....pretty cool day!

just as a sidenote....because of all of the traffic to that one post I made, I come up #3 on a google search for that recipe for the chocolate banana cupcakes, passing the original blogger's post......these sites are good for your blog!

Good job. If you build a following we will expect you to do your own cupcake book.

Thanks mojo, but that would require developing my own cupcake recipes. I do have some ideas though.
The blog is up to about 24-25 countries now. Amazing how well known those sites are around the world!

Oh I meant a link to your own submission there? I don't want to have to look through nasty meat pictures. Not sure how to search for specific submissions there.

for foodgawker, http://foodgawker.com/?s=vegan+cupcake&cat=0 you can click on the picture, and it'll take you to my blog. It's the first one with the green coconut on top

Photojess, both sites are very picky and they each seem to have their own style that they like. I've had a few accepted, but i don't think I've had the same pic accepted on both site. You can google ways to get accepted for stylistic things if you want. With your skill, though, I'd think you'll have a let up on the competition. It was always a craps shoot for me.

Great pick. And grats on getting accepted.

Jess, do you have any suggestions or guidelines about how to take good food photos?

I really want to blog but my photos suck My camera is kinda old and im in the market for a better one, but I know I'm also lacking in technique too.

it's really about the lighting (preferably natural), and focus, not so much about the camera itself, although having an SLR certainly helps, it's not a requirement by any means. Many food bloggers started with a P+S.

Here's a site that will definately help you along......spend some time listening to the food photographer interviews which are all audios, no visuals. You can do other things while listening to them, then peruse the articles. It's a very good site. There are also links to help food bloggers along, somewhere in his site. Have fun! http://www.learnfoodphotography.com/

(BTW, with my last cupcake, which was the chocolate with PB frosting, I had 714 page hits yesterday with 869 page loads, and 41 returning vistors.....that was incredible.....I didn't count up all of the countries yesterday, but a couple of days ago, 30 different countries had logged on to my blog.- but I'm a stats fan anyway.....I like seeing numbers and from where!)
