OK, so I'm having a bit of trouble with my hair. My hair has always been slow to grow and very course. I chopped most of it off over the Spring to a short and cute pixie cut because it was so damaged (and I needed a cleansing cut).

I'm trying to grow it out again, but it's just so slow to grow and still seems very course, at some are very damaged and wirey. Also it looks like I've lost a lot of hair.

In all disclosure, the Spring was a very stressful and unpleasant time so I'm unsure how much stress is playing into this. Maybe a little, but I've never had very healthy hair.

I take a hair and nail supplement, and many other vitamins on top of it. I eat a rather healthy diet - I'm vegetarian, but I also have many vegan plates.

Thanks for any advice. I'm just trying to look my best as I venture back into the dating scene.

Welcome, since that was your first post!

I'm not really sure if you're asking for advice or not, on how to make it healthier? I don't think you can change the texture of your hair...pretty sure that's all genetics!
as far as getting it healthy, and in relation to losing hair, it's not unusual to lose more during a very stressfull time. Has it grown back yet?

If it needs deep conditioning, I know people on here will tell you to use coconut oil. Supposed to be very good for the hair, although I've never used it. Make sure you're getting a nice balance of vitamins and minerals from your veggies.

Have you searched online of natural ways to improve your hair health?

Lot's of masks & conditioning treatments. Keep hearing about argan oil as well; it's said to dramatically soften the hair.

I would be interested in knowing if you ever find out.

That's not true. I was a cosmetologist for a little while and there is such a variety in hair that you can't tell someone's diet by their hair just by looking and feeling. That would require in-depth chemical analysis etc.

The pillars of good hair are:
balanced diet
drink plenty of water
regular conditioning with moisturizing conditioner
regular haircuts to remove split ends
limited use of high heat styling tools
limited exposure to chlorine and other chemicals

If you've lost a lot of hair you might want to go to the doctor. It could be a skin infection on your scalp that's damaging your hair follicles. Or poor nutrition. Or stress. It's worth getting checked out. You don't want to be slathering oils on your hair and popping expensive vitamins if the true cause is a fungal infection. Best to find out what's really going on.
