This trend is everywhere. I rarely see a girl walk by without them in their hair. My friend gave them to me so I assumed they were synthetic because 1)she knew I am a vegetarian and Plus, she told me you can straighten and curl them which I didnt even think was possible with real feathers...

then I saw this article: http://www.peta.org/living/fashion/d...-feathers.aspx
Okay, now I reall really stupid and sad.
These roosters are being killed for stupid fashion trend.
I've also been a walking hypocrite for the past six months. Atleast, I didnt buy them...i guess

This is pretty ridiculous. I've seen these around, and I hate them. While I don't think most people know where these really come from, I don't think knowing would really make a difference. People know their hamburgers are dead cows (and other mystery meat combos), but that doesn't stop them, either. =/

A friend of mine who knows I'm vegan came over once wearing earrings made with those rooster feathers. It made me really uncomfortable, and what made things worse is she asked me if I liked them and if I wanted to touch them. I think she was just being a bit oblivious, but still, gross.

it's one of those things I really had to go in myself and think about because I really wanted some, I think they are so pretty and I could be a bit alternative without it going bad with my job. But I'm a vegetarian now and they're off limit. I didn't buy any, I was sad for a while, feeling a bit like a child who just got angry. but at the end of it my childish anger was not worth the life of a animal for a trend even if it looks cute.

This.
and the fact that I'm not a bird, so I don't want feathers on my head.

I really hate these.
. I see them everywhere, they seem rather silly. My mom said when she first saw them, "They look like part of a costume!" and I agree, I can't understand how they're fashionable. They don't match clothes or anything on top of looking silly and odd. I prefer accessorizing hair with clips and headbands and things, but if these people want something permanent like that why not get highlights/lowlights instead for something that looks different in their hair? Then them being cruel is even worse, but even if they had nothing to do with animals I wouldnt understand them. Hopefully it's just a fad that'll pass.

I am 37...not 40.....LOL....and some friends of mine....who are my age and older some 40...LOL...and who know I have been veggie 22 years and know I dont wear any animal products ask me if I wanna come to a hair feather party....they were going to have that done all together just for a day of fun and fashion....I politely decline cause its wrong imo and it looks tacky....just tacky I dont care if you are in your teens or an old lady like me....hehe

I think they're a bit odd too. Feathers belong on birds.

I'm proud of my youngest sister. I obviously make her think about a lot of things related to veg*nism and animal rights/welfare, and the other day she was going through one of her friends Facebook albums, and comes across a picture of her friend with feathers in her hair. Immediately she goes "Ewwww!" and calls me over to see. "Look she has those feathers in her hair. Poor roosters."

I had linked to that Joshua Katcher article about them a couple months ago on Facebook, and then my mom shared it as well. So my sister must have read it and now knows what happens in order to get those feathers, and not proclaims how she does not like them. *tears* I'm so proud.
