So I've mentioned a few times that I've started an environmental group at my university, and after one really successful first stall (we're doing a Freecycle-style stall alongside some other things), we've hit the block. We were going to have a stall again on Thursday, but apparently we're not allowed, because there's a Royal visit happening on Friday and they need to clean the area that we would be making use of... Would make sense, apart from it's the central area of the university, and is being closed off from 8pm Thursday - 3pm on Friday... starting hours after we're done!<br><br>
Totally enraged, I don't want some sickening Royal dole scum at my uni, and I certainly don't appreciate their ten minute appearance shutting down all the clubs and societies, not to mention the library that they're meant to be opening, so students can't even study for two days because of a photo op. And all this increased security because the last time a royal visitor came here the students (rightly) acted up!

I'd peacefully protest this in some way if it was my school. but I'm pretty opinionated about this type of thing. Are you going to organize any way of protesting this? (I'm just curious I understand not protesting too)

Incidentally, Grrr Royalty is also the upcoming title of a movie about dog kings. It's a sequel to Woof Royalty, which was well-received by critics.

I would like to, but I doubt there'd be any popular attendance thanks to the tight security, the popularity of the Royals atm because of the wedding, and the fact they've kept it so quiet that we'd only have two days to organise... I might do something, but we'll see. Last time it was the Queen, and someone threw flour at her and shouted 'Anthrax!'<br>
The uni ended up on the front of Private Eye for that one... <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

That does seem mad. The queen visited our one but I don't think anything was closed/shut off for it. I was in a lecture at the time and I didn't know it was happening till our lecturer said.

Yeah, a little old lady really deserves people trying to make her think Anthrax has been thrown on her :/</div>

Swings and roundabouts, she doesn't deserve millions in dole payments just because of who her family are. But no, I think the 'Anthrax!' thing was over the top. It was originally meant to be a sit down protest, but a load of idiots got drunk and it turned into 'a riot' according to the papers but 'a bunch of rowdy idiots' according to anyone with half a brain.

I heard about that, it made the paper over here lol<br>
I think its stupid and immature but at least it proves a point (to an extent and there are better ways to do so) and gets international attention without being violent violent lol

I thought you were just upset because you didn't get invited to the wedding. I was going to tell you I wasn't, either. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

I've only ever lived in commonwealth countries but when you step back for a minute, you realise how archaic the monarchy is. For the moment, however, there isn't much opposition to the royal family and it doesn't boil down to a huge cost for the U.K. to bear (and probably hugely benefits the London tourism economy.)

I don't intend being anywhere near London the day of the wedding. I just hope that I don't have to be for any reason as it will be a nightmare.<br><br>
In other Royal news Prince Andrew was been <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/perv_mogul_gets_royal_treatment_QHwt7w3vcfEAiH7vfpdFjI" target="_blank">hanging out with sex offenders</a> and <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/mar/04/prince-andrew-relations-corrupt-tunisian" target="_blank">dictator's son-in-law</a>.
