Hi Everyone

I'm veggie from way back in the sixties, been an inactive member here for some time but thought I should get chatting. I live on an island between England and France, where cars are banned and neighbours feel no need to lock their doors. Out of the 600 residents here there are a few other veggies - and our shops sell meat-free products.

YES... The population of this little rock have voted for electoral reform. The island is owned and governed by 40 land owners who are not allowed to divide their freehold property - so they can't sell of some land for someone else to build a home on it. Instead, land owners lease out some of their land.

Part of the privelege of being a land owner is they get to sit in Chief Please - the island's government. So the island is governed by the 40 unelected land owners and twelve elected deputies. But after yesterday's historic vote in Chief Pleas, the island will be governed by a fully elected assembly of 28 members, regardless of their status as land owners.

No doubt other reforms will follow - but this will still remain a ruggedly beautiful island where cars, lorries and motorbikes are banned. With only three an a half miles between the extreem ends of this island - who needs a car!

Very cool. I had to look up exactly what a fiefdom was yesterday.
It was interesting too, to see how close the vote was.

and welcome!

By the way sark is Turkish for orient. As a veg*an you might be looked at as an oriental. And maybe you'll get enough orientation here.

Have lots of fun and post your ideas.
