When I was in Sparta MI, I found a child's grave decorated with Sponge bob.

I mean it was carved on the tombstone and there were many plastic Spongebob toys around next to the gravestone.

My first impression was I'm not sure I'd want something so whimisical and playful on something as serious as a gravestone. Ok their child was around 14- 16 yrs. old and now their parents and friends can look at Spongebob for the next I dunno, 60-70 yrs. Gotta love Sponge bob eh?....

I might add the whole experience got me very depressed because while we were there, a pick up truck pulled up and two people got out, walked over to that grave and sat there. I assume they were the parents of the child.

Hey, if it helps remind them of the child's life rather than the child's death, all the better. Cheap plastic angel figurines and tattered fake flowers normally adorn the children's gravestones in the cemeteries I've seen.

I live very close to the cemetery for my city, and I enjoy going on walks and jogs in there because it's quiet and has little traffic. The other day, I was walking along and noticed a young woman getting back into her car after standing by a gravestone. When I passed the gravestone she'd been looking at, I realized this was the section where many infants were buried.

Out of curiousity, I started looking at the dates on the baby headstones to see how far back they went. I was quite surprised to discover the place my coworker's baby was buried in November. I didn't know the coworker at the time, and she and I have never talked about the baby. That's sobering.

I would like to reassure you skylark that although I never talk about you, I do walk past your grave everday j/k. Please visit mine sometime likewise!

ps, I think go with the spongebob idea, what skylark remarks is right for the parents, better to remember the life than to focus too much on the death.
