You heard right, Google is going to give websites that are not mobile friendly a lower ranking then websites that are mobile friendly. Not only that but they are also going to start to give warnings to people searching the internet when they come across a website that is not HTTPS secure. Letsencyrpt gives away free SSL if you need one.

The SLL warning is a load of nonsense. Why should all websites be secure? If they are not not gathering sensitive data there is absolutely no need for it and it slows down a websites download time. If you are gathering sensitive date eg. PayPal then i absolutely agree that it s
should be and of course already is

I think it comes down to Google not being able to know which sites collect sensitive information or do not. My only worry is that it will scare away those who are not tech savvy from sites that they otherwise may have benefitted from, otherwise a small warning that lets you know in the search itself may be a good idea in the long term, instead of looking at the url itself before clicking to see if https: is there.

Surely Google can easily detect if a website is gathering data has it will have the HTML code for a form on it? Isn't it the same principle that tells them whether a website is smartphone friendly, ie. they detect the relevant html or css?
