i was wondering if any one had a good recipe for some homemade whole wheat bread. i've tried a couple cause i love homemade bread but they all kinda sucked so if any one knows a good one please tell me!! Thanks!!

I've tried about 4 or 5 different recipes for whole wheat bread, but I think this one is the best!

Susan's Whole Wheat Bread

Yields: 2 medium loaves


2 1/2 cups hot water

1/4 cup molasses

4 tbsp. soft soy margarine

1 scant tbsp. salt (optional)

1 package yeast

1/4 cup hot water

7 1/2 cups whole wheat flour


Place 2 1/2 cups hot water, molasses, soy margarine and salt in a bowl and stir well. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup hot water and add to above mixture. Add 3 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour and stir. Gradually add remaining flour while stirring. Reserve a little flour for board.

When dough is stiff and has absorbed flour, turn onto floured board and let rest 10 minutes. Then knead dough 10 minutes, adding flour as necessary to keep it from being too sticky.

Lightly oil a large bowl. Put dough in it. Turn over so the top is oiled. Cover wit a warm damp towel. Let rise in warm place 1 1/2 hours or until dough doubles. punch down and form two balls. Let rest 10 minutes. Lightly oil two 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans. Form oblongs of dough, and place in pans. Cover with wet towel. Lest rise 1 1/4 hours.

Preheat oven 375 degrees (for Pyrex pans, 350 degrees). Bake 45 minutes.
