I've been vegan for over a year now and love the lifestyle. I actually have gone fully raw yesterday. I'm experimenting it out cos I have acne spots and acne scars on my face so I'm hoping in time the acne would go or at least don't get much breakouts. I know my scars won't go but hey. Anybody raw on this board who has acne or scars? If so I'll love to hear your thoughts on eating raw to help us acne sufferers.

As much as going raw could help your acne problems sometimes seeing your doctor or even a dermatologist could help you out better. Have you spoken to your doctor or a dermatologist and asked them if going raw would help you? Maybe they could give you some pointers as to what would help you.

Hey there mint berry!

I currently have acne and scars I'm hoping to heal and have been on the high carb low fat lifestyle for roughly a month now. I can tell you it's helping a lot! You can't expect drastic results overnight because it does take time to clear your body of the toxins that are causing the acne. I don't eat overt fats except maybe some avocado once a week, but if you track your intake on cronometer you'll see even the raw foods you're eating have fat! Fruit and veg does contrary to the misconception it is fat free!

Why is this so important tho? So if you're eating like...coconut oil for example it's just pure fat thats been stripped of its fiber and other nutrients so it isn't used as effectively in our bodies. Also a build up of toxins from our previous diet's take time to clear out...think about it, for myself I ate animal products for 22 years before I went vegan, so those toxins aren't gonna leave over night. Also before I went hclf I was eating a high fat, high sodium vegan diet but with lots of mock meats and fried foods, very little fruit and veg (i know wtf haha)

SO, i hope this helps...but if you're eating pure clean fuel your skin is gonna catch up, just give it time! Remember to eat a lot of hydrating foods like watermelon and cucumber, drink a lot of water, get enough sleep (8-10 hrs) and sweat it out with exercise! Good luck :)

Toxins? Do you have a link for toxins?
No link, just what I've gathered from researching it and personal experience. If your liver isn't filtering properly you're gonna have the toxins flow back into your system and try to come out other ways which is usually the skin with it being our biggest organ. If you've come off a diet with more fat and protein that you need it's going to take time for the systems to return to proper working mode...from what I've gathered!

Meh- I've been omni; whole food plant based, no oils or sugar; now vegan with some processed foods, oils and sugar. No changes.

Big difference came from quitting makeup, soap, cleaning with oils and some sugar scrubs and clay masks.

I think genetics play a huge role in skin as they do things like tooth decay

Agree 100%. My parents both looked young, and my sister and I do, too. Our brother (the youngest at 55) has some wrinkles and his hair is totally white now. My sister is turning 60 and looks good, has lost much of her extra weight. She has the best hair lol, but mine has less white, like my dad's. My sister's skin looks great. My siblings are both omnis.

I use eye creme, face cleanser, serum, and moisturizer, it's all vegan natch.

So Idk if my being vegan for about a decade and veg before that has had an effect on my external aging. I feel like I am 25 most of the time on the inside, though! :)

My vegan son had some acne breakouts around puberty, but short lived, his skin is great, as is my omni daughter's. They are in their 20's. Best advice for acne is to treat your skin gently, change your pillowcase daily or flip it over for another day, be wary of hair products like oils, conditioners, gels, mousses, sprays, etc as they can irritate the skin, especially on the pillowcase. Do i sound pillowcase obsessed suddenly?

Don't take hot showers. I think a lot of skin problems whether genetic or not, are magnified by washing with hot water and chemical soap. Something like plain coconut oil might be better to use, like a cold cream.

Also, use brewers yeast in smoothies and such. It prevents acne. (Unfortunately it is not a raw ingredient).

In some cases, food intolerances or undiagnosed Celiac can cause acne. It takes months to determine if eliminating certain foods work because it takes time for the body to eliminate the toxins. Thus, no matter what diet you are on, it will take time to see if that diet works for you or not.

There is a test your doctor can do to see if the liver is working okay or not. The results and all that is strictly something a Doctor needs to hash out. My doctor said that only way to get to the bottom of the acne issue is with talking with a dermatologist and a lot of trial and error, depending on what might be the cause.
