I recieved the following email:

* * * GM trade war looms - URGENT action * * *

The US Government has filed a complaint with the WTO regarding the EU's policy on GM food. It follows heavy lobbying by big US-based biotechnology multinationals like Monsanto.

The US will argue that the EU reluctance to take GM foods is an illegal barrier to free trade. Friends of the Earth believes this is just the latest Bush government-led attempt to bulldoze over other countries' rights to protect their people and the environment.

For more information see here:

Email your US Ambassador and ask them to express your dismay to their government and seek the withdrawal of this WTO complaint:

If you receive responses to email actions, please forward them to [email protected]

This is animal-related because GM crop can kill animals.

Bt-corn is now known to be poisonous to butterfly's.

So, for anyone in the DC area who is interested in this situation, there is this annual Biotechnology Industry Convention that is taking place June 22-25. The actual convention is being quite strict about who they let in, press-wise, because they know how controversial this whole thing is, the US trying to force countries to take genetically modified/ engineered (GM/GE) food aid. However, there is going to be a protest at the convention center, that I cannot find much information about. Here is the website of the actual convention:

I think I'm going to have my own personal "action day" where I send letters to stop all the world's cruelty and give some of my wealth to some good causes because I'm just too lazy to do like 1 letter a day. So, GMOs will be one of my causes. But I would still like to know what the alternative to GMOs is.
