Yup. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

what do you mean by old blood? How does that play into the new blood coming? Has anyone experienced this before finding out they were pregnant?

It's been so long since I have had a natural period (one not while on the pill) that my memory is foggy. But yes, I think I have had this. Sometimes I have had this from other things, "breakthrough bleeding". I got it from using St. Johns Wort. (A common side effect; and a warning, SJW can weaken your birth control pill).

blood turns brown when it dries, so yes, it is probably just blood that has been shedded for a while, but hadn't 'come out' yet.

this has happened to me almost every month since I stopped taking the pill. I wouldn't worry about it. (I wasn't pregnant any of those times.)

Okay, you need to relax and wait a couple of hours to see if you start a fresher, heavier flow. Go exercise or do something. If nothing changes by noon, go get an early pregnancy test. Chances are you're not pregnant and the test will give you peace of mind.

I was almost two weeks late last month, and I was sweating bullets. I took a pergnacy test that came up negative and I got my period about four hours later. I think my stressing over it only made it worse. Happy story huh?

A positive pregnancy test. Then a doctor's confirmation. Really, there are other things *supposedly*, but most of my friends who think they saw/felt signs of it were people who A)wanted to get pregnant and had really been supplying the signs for months and when they were finally right they said they just knew, or B) were really really really paranoid about getting pregnant and knew they were pregnant every month until finally they were right and... see A.

Of course I've (thankfully) never been pregnant, so you may take this with a grain of salt. Just telling you my observations. It is, of course, more likely if you've had *unprotected* sex recently. Just a fact of life.

But I do stand by my orginial post. A non-pill-induced period will often have the brown as its beginning before hitting full-force, so *it* is not something to worry about. You are also less likely to be regular if you've recently gone off the pill. It's entirely possible that you'll get the brown stuff and nothing else due to, well, normal irregularities. Your body may be readjusting.

If you're really stressed, get the early pregnancy test. It's the only thing that will let you know with some degree of accuracy one way or the other.

Good luck,

Baby and Mskedi, thankyou so much for your support. I'm going to wait one more agonizing day until I do a test. You all really do make me feel better. I don't really have a support system of women out here, so I feel so much better knowing that you're around.

Allow me a moment for my public service annoucement....

Until you are in a relationship with someone who's phyically health is determinded by a doctor, you should use STD-protection if you want to engage in a sexual relationship with that person.

Also, if you have unprotected sex, get the morning after pills from your doctor. (They're legal in Canada, assuming legal in the US). They are 4 pills, very inexpensive (again, here they are). Some people they make a little nausous, some (like me) end you in the bathroom for 2 days hanging over the toilet. But, it's better to do that, then face the stress anf decisions of an unplanned pregnancy.

Now that's over...

Msk is so right. I don't know how many women I've met who said every month "I KNEW I was..." and weren't. I've met women who stressed about not being pregnent so much, that they missed their periods for a couple months and developed swollen bellies, morning sickness, etc.

Take an early detection pregnancy test. If it comes up negative, go buy yourself some chinese food and a bottle of wine (or ginger ale), pour yourself a bubble bath, light some candles and pretend you're the Queen of an empire, surrounded by man servants. Well, after a scare, you'll probably won't want man servants...OK, scratch them out the of the fantasy.

FC, hugs. I've had scares and they are enough to make you go crazy, I know. Keep your mind as busy as possible, so you don't stress.

Let us know.

Well, I know you, krista, and you're a tough love kind of woman. Your public service announcement is very important. I just want to tell you about me and my situation so you don't think I'm a sleaze.

I'm 20 years old, a sophomore at a private college. (piano performance major.) My boyfriend (another musician) and I are very serious. We talk about marraige all the time, but he wants to go through grad school before that happens. He is a wonderful, sensitive, caring person...someone who tries even more than I do to make this relationship ideal, and to make me happy. He's a dream, really. we weren't even planning to have sex until we were married...but something just happened. He actually never um.....consummated in me because we stopped in right in the middle....but I know that semen leaks even before that actually happens. I am very very worried. I know people who have become pregnant this way.

I've only had one other partner. He was a virgin. So is my current boyfriend. (well, until last weeek , shamefully.) Both relationships are and were long term relationships. 3 years.

Please don't think I'm a sleaze.
