Hehehe, that was pretty good... and not that far from the truth. My mother has a Ford Tempo and I went to the gas station for her to put some gas in her car. I popped 30 bucks worth into the tank and it was between 1/2 tank and 3/4 tank. For a Tempo. Not that long ago 30 bucks would have filled it from bone dry, running-on-fumes empty.
Teri, here in Canada its sold in Litres as well. Pump prices here are about 84 cents per Litre (Canadian Dollars) for regular, self-serve gas which is about $3.20 per gallon. For us, that would work out to approximately $2.25 US dollars per gallon.
$1.89 here in San Diego.. I'm still looking for a job, one of my strong prospects (i'll prolly know in a week) is about 35 miles away... I was hoping to find a job within 15-20 miles so I could bike to work... but I'm sure I wont be commuting a 35 mile bike ride! If gas prices keep climbing, I might think about driving half way and biking the rest...
I paid $1.65/gal for gas today. I put in $15 and that almost filled my car. Tis very nice when the gas prices are lower and I can put in $10 and be done with it for another week or so. However, if the worst thing that happens to me because of all that war crap is paying a little more for gas, I don't have a right to complain.
The last time I filled up (about a week ago), I think it was $1.59 a gallon.

I remember being 16 years old and filling up my old Jeep at 79 cents a gallon. Where did those halcyon days go?
So it's $5.53 a gallon in the Uk.

Or you're paying £1 and we're paying £3.50 a gallon.

The price went up $1 a barrel when the Exxon place blew up earlier today. People in England are assuming it was a limpet mine, although the news is saying it was an accident. Hmm.
personally i don't drive and therefore don't care about the gas prices, and think it's just a symptom of a much more serious issue. but i thought the pic was funny
Here it's like 1.10 a litre so that's like 4 dollar 50c for a gallon.

Personally I think the price should double.

I don't have a car anymore and I think the prices should have to go up dracticly to "force" people to make more environmentally right desicions.
I agree that higher gas prices would drive people more towards conservation, and conservation is a good thing...but some people don't have the option of not having a car.

The public transit system in my area is very lacking. Housing within an appropriate distance of my work for me to walk or bicycle is prohibitively expensive. I work second shift, and I would not feel safe walking from a bus stop to my home late at night, and because my shift is oddly timed, I have no one to carpool with. A car is a necessity, for me, and increased gas prices would be a hardship.

I do what I can. My car is as fuel-efficient as it can be, considering that it's not a hybrid. (Which I cannot afford.) I keep my vehicle well-maintained so that it uses resources efficiently, and I practice conservation to the best of my ability by combining trips, riding with friends when I can, for social outings, and walking/cycling when the distance is appropriate for that.

I would love to give up my car. I would love to give up sitting in traffic, paying car insurance, and buying gasoline, but it's not in the cards for me right now.

You are a baby. I remember being 16 years old, and paying $0.179 / gal. That't right. 18 cents a gallon. But it didn't last long. We had a dramatic cost increase, and for several years, gas was $0.29 per gal
