Wow. I finally got around to reading this book yesterday and today. It's really pretty great. Great antidote to all the aggro hate-hate-hate AR stuff I've been exposed to, not to mention the treacly emotional stuff that, to me, is useless in convincing your average person that we have to stop consuming animals. I find irrefutable facts and logic much more valuable, especially when presented in such an even-handed and open-hearted way.

I hope to be able to give this book to everyone I know at some point when I can afford it. This and Fast Food Nation. We have to combat the ignorance perpetrated by the advertising might of the rich meat and dairy producers, and these books are practically bibles for doing so.

i need to lend my brother fast food nation! i've never heard of food revolution. will keep an eye out for it though, thanks.

i actually just picked up a few food books myself that i have yet to read. one is called "natures perfect food" how milk became americas drink. the other is foods frontier.

the milk one looked especially interesting. i am a vegan, don't get me wrong. milk is just a big, weird subject most do not really know much about.

like....how about this. 90% of the worlds population is lactose intolerant. why? cause humans are genetically only meant to produce the enzyme lactase when they are, tah dah. drinking mothers milk as a baby. once weaned off, this gene stops producing lactasee. in the us, almost 50% of the population is lactose tolerant.

don't quote my numbers...they could be wrong.

thanks joe. rather people not post entire articles in the boards though. links are fine...though maybe not as likely to be read...

i have heard of john robbins somewhere. i went to a slow food festival a year back and saw a woman speak (i wish i remembered her name...i took some notes, but never got back to getting her name). well, i first heard about fast food nation because she had a lot of good to say about it. i also think she may have mentioned john robbins...oh well.

i have a lot to read right now, so it'll be a bit before i would seek this one out. i appreciate hearing and reading more from others about it though.

All John Robbins' books are great. His expose on the "health" industry is fantastic too.

I agree, fast Food Nation, Diet For A New America and Food Revolution are great eye opening books. John Robbins has a great way of explaining things without being preachy, just pure hard facts of what is REALLY going on behind closed doors and factories.

Not only does he talk about diet choices but about living a more simple, earth friendly life. Most of us seem to forget that we are all just living on a spinning fireball in outer space that needs a delicate balance of clean water and clean air to sustain human life. Without people like him ( and many countless others) this planet would be in worse shape than it already is, he is trying to open up people's eyes to the fact that EVERYTHING we do to this planet has consequences which will affect us all no matter where you live or how rich you are, we really are a global community all intertwined somehow.

These are MUST reads for anyone who wants to have an idea of how to live a good life while still respecting planet earth.

Dug this up instead of starting a new thread...

What does everyone here think about the idea of a documentary based on "The Food Revolution?"

I didn't like the book, and would definetely not recommend it to anyone. But I'm only half way through, so I can only speak about the first half. (I took a break from it so that I could read Fast Food Nation instead). Just way too much false and overstated information, and the documentation was a joke. So no, I wouldn't recommend a movie based on it.

What do you consider to be false or overstated, and what documentation do you have to support that?

i've finished _food revolution_ 2 days ago. though somewhat pleasant to read,

there's too much of copy&paste and repetition for my taste. issues are simplified and the blame is put on the industry - why blaming a scorpion for being a scorpion instead of finding the real bogeyman? (- the state)

Fast Food Nation got me really thinking about being vegan and The Food Revolution is what gave me the final nudge.I think they are both excellent books and are probably responsible for a good number of people deciding to go veg.

I just finished reading the Fast Food Nation and found it very eye-opening. I'm really trying to learn more about Animal Rights. My original reason for going veggie was health but now I can't ignore the suffering of animals.

I also think this book gave me the final nudge to go vegan. Excellent book. I could even read it over again and still learn one or two things I'm sure.
