Are the calculations for your daily calorie needs on fitday.com really accurate? It says I need many many more calories per day than I'd ever expect...just wondering <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/huh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

They're as accurate as they can be -- which means that if everyone who was the same height and the same weight with the same activity level (on a fairly arbitrary scale) burned exactly the same amount of calories, it would be accurate. I agree with pghmountainbkr -- I use it more for the nutritional info. But, if you're losing weight and you don't want to (or gaining weight and you don't want to, or staying the same...), it might give you an idea of which direction your calories should go.
