Hello Everyone!

I've been reading the forums here for a while, signed up not too long ago, now making my first post.

It feels nice to see so many like-minded folk, and I feel empowered (and 'at home') every time I visit this place

I just felt like sharing a small story with you - for all the resistance I've faced with family, friends and co-workers, it was nice to feel support like I did.

I've been working at this office for just under a year. My boss (and CEO of the company) hosts a Superbowl party every year - he sent out an invitation to all the staff, proclaiming that there would be the usual fare of beer, liquor and chili, and that all were invited.

As per, I just assumed I would eat beforehand and graciously decline a meal once at the party, when he sent me a second, personal e-mail:

"I'd love to have you attend the Superbowl party this year - In case you're thinking of coming, my wife has a GREAT vegetarian chili recipe - we'll gladly whip up a batch of vegetarian chili for the party if it means you will join us!"

It was the first time someone had not insinuated that I was a difficult guest (which I feel a lot, even though I never ask or need special consideration), and it was such a thoughtful and nice gesture that I felt the need to share it with you.

The 5-bean chili was DELICIOUS, by the way - and for some odd reason, those of us who chowed on the veggie concoction didn't seem as bloated and uncomfortable for the remainder of the game - imagine that

In any case, nice to meet everyone, and thanks for reading!

Thanks for the welcome everyone

After reading about some experiences here, I feel particularly lucky to have (mostly) accepting people to interact with. One (non-veggie) girl I work with never ceases to amaze me - Someone asked me the classic "but you DO eat fish, right?" line, and she promptly answered for me with a curt "that would make him a *pescatarian*, as vegetarians don't eat animals at all."

I just nodded, smiled, and then winked my approval when the other guy turned around :p
