So today is my first day being vegan. It's really nice. I feel purer already!! =D The hard part is going to be me giving up cheese! But heck before (7 years ago) when I ate meat I used to love chicken like I love cheese so I think if I gave chicken up for 7 years I can give cheese up for good! =D I have no problem giving up milk or egg or any other dairy/ meat product though. I live in a house full of meat eaters and people who love their cheese haha soooo it may be difficult for a while but as long as I stay strong and positive I think I can do it! =)

I discovered a breakfast item that I fell in love with. Vegan waffles!! Delicious! Better than regular waffles. haha Oh and I don't really like soy milk but I do love rice milk so I bought that. I bought this "cream cheese" made by tofutti. It tastes kind of salty and strange...lol It will take some getting used to! Any of you try that? Being vegan is going to be expensive but I think it's worth it!

grats on the move feels good to be living up to your own standards and i've never been healthier either.

it can be expensive if you're buying ''substitute'' products, but if you eat foods that are naturally vegan, such as produce etc you might realize it can be cheaper... Pretty easy to make vegan pancakes/waffles also.

if u have any troubles, temptations or just need some new recipes come post here on veggieboards

I didn't really buy too many substitute items. Just like the bread was expensive. The only substitutes I bought were the cream cheese and ranch dressing. The rest is all natural and some cereal. lol I wanted to get some soy ice cream since it's been so hot buuut it was like 6 dollars so I didn't get it. Maybe another time! lol I have a huuuuge vegan cookbook I bought a long time ago so I will start using that for recipes. =)

Hi congrats on your first day I have tried that cream cheese, I find it's better either mixed up with garlic and herbs on a savoury sandwich with salad/ veggies, or mixed up with sugar/ something sweet and eaten with fruit or biscuits, or made into frosting. It might not seem like it will be nice sweetened, but it is

I don't know about cheese, but soy yoghurt is amazing, especially in a smoothie, and the coconut milk ice creams are way better than I remember Ben and Jerry's tasting!

Though if I am having cravings, I have a copy of Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet, which has an entire chapter that goes into the nasty side of dairy. Reading that fixes the cravings every time.

Way to go, amyshizzle! Regarding it being expensive, keep an eye out for sales. Also, some of the companies that produce the substitutes sometimes have coupons you can download from their websites. There are tons of naturally vegan foods that don't cost an arm and a leg. Lentils and dried beans are so much cheaper, even if the prep takes a little bit of planning. I make my hummus instead of paying $4 or more for 8 oz. of store-bought varieties. Plus, homemade tastes better! Even if you use canned chickpeas for the hummus, it's still cheaper than buying prepared hummus. You get a ton for what you spend on ingredients.

Congrats! Cheese can be addictive to many converts, but to me compassion overrules any selfish desires. xo

Congratulations! =) I've been vegan for a week, and it does feel amazing from the very first meal. I didn't start out vegetarian, I just switched from eating animal products and byproducts every meal to completely cutting everything out. It's really fun to look at the ingredients labels and google ingredients and vegan options at common restaurants, too. I've learned a lot about what I was eating, and I just feel really clean cutting all the gross foods out. I did get very ill this morning, but I think it's because I haven't gone this long without animal products, and since I didn't do a transition my body's going through withdrawals, but I'm putting up with it because it just feels great being Vegan, like you said, really nice and pure. Every time I have a meal and choose to eat cruelty-free, it feels like I have an actual strong sense of purpose like I've never felt before.

Almond and hemp milk rock, too. My 1st day vegan was yesterday! I toyed with first going vegetarian again and then going vegan, but my heart, soul, gut, and everything else in my body are telling me that vegan is simply what my body SHOULD be.
