Ooh. The Corn Palace! I've been there! Don't forget to go to Wall Drug too.

The giant ketchup bottle in Collinsville, IL.
Prairie Dog Town (near Waco, TX I think it is)
The Field of Dreams film site near Dyersville, IA
The Museum of Magic in Marshall, MI
Albino Squirrels in Olney, IL (we only saw regular ol' squirrels when we were there, though)
All things Superman - Metropolis, IL
Hippie Memorial - Arcola, IL
"Awakening" sculpture in Potomac Park, DC
Temple of the Odd Fellows - DC
Meramec Caverns, Missouri (not sure what town)
Hell, Michigan
Giant ass gold Frenchman's statue "The Republic" in Jackson Park, Chicago, IL
The praying hands in Tulsa
So much stuff along Route 66 that I can't begin (Blue Whale, Tumbleweed museum, Cadillac Ranch...)

Oh, trying to remember the place I sat on "dinosaurs" or saw the giant Jesus or a hundred other things.

Somedays, I love America.

I could drive to that within an hour, but it just ain't good enough.

Indian villages in the Southwest US are about the most "far out" seeming places I've been to.

The teenage Indian boys might ask you for beer, like they did me. I only had root beer. I was not a cool white man that day.

Hanging around in the local area is part of the charm for me. Listening to old men in the middle of the day at a diner (where you've creatively found something vegan to eat), reading the local newspaper, maybe watching a baseball game.

I live really close to this place. My ex DIL has a friend whose parents actually ran the hotel there for a time "back in the day." It is a beautiful rural Florida setting and nice to drive through. Never been there at night though....or on Halloween.....

They also have a Weird Washington (State, not DC, but, like CA, redundant). I contributed the Abandoned Religious Gas Station in Long Beach, WA. It was in the book, but not on the website. Here are photos from my Flickr stream of the abandoned religious gas station.
