Asking us to choose just one favorite Elvis song is, well, ridiculous!

My #1 favorite is Loving You. I love his approach to it; I think it's really strong proof that he could sing absolutely any kind of song.

Quote:

I will spend my whole life through

Loving you, loving you.

Winter, summer, springtime, too,

Loving you, loving you.

Makes no difference where I go or what I do.

You know that I'll always be loving you.

If I'm seen with someone new,

Don't be blue, don't be blue.

I'll be faithful I'll be true;

Always true, true to you.

There is only one for me, and you know who.

You know that Ill always be loving you.

But I also especially love Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, and his version of Fever.

I dunno if these are my favorites, but these are two that come to mind:

Quote:

Elvis Presley - Hard Headed Woman Lyrics

Well a hard headed woman,

a soft hearted man

been the cause of trouble

ever since the world began.

Oh yeah, ever since the world began

a hard headed woman been

a thorn in the side of man.

...

I got a woman,

a head like a rock.

If she ever went away

I'd cry around the clock.

Oh yeah, ever since the world began

a hard headed woman been

a thorn in the side of man.

If there's a chance for me

Then I don't care, oh-oh-oh-oh

Fools rush in, where wise men never go

But wise men never fall in love

So how are they to know

When we met, I felt my life begin

So open up your heart and let

This fool rush in

Today, the 16th of August 2009, is the 32nd anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. Here's to the King of Rock and Roll!

Turner Classic Movies has been showing a major marathon of Elvis movies, but they're available on DVD, so you can rent a bunch and create your own marathon.

For those of you who were old enough to remember back in August 1977, where were you, what were you doing when you learned Elvis had died?

In August 1977 I was a high school graduate. I was working an office job before starting college in the fall. One of my coworkers had been on the phone with her mother, who was home watching the news on television, and she told her daughter, who announced the news to everyone in the office. I didn't consider myself an Elvis fan at that time since I knew very little about him or his music, having been born and grown up during his movie years. Therefore, while I was sad, I didn't feel deeply sad about it.

It was later when the movie "This is Elvis" came out, and my brother suggested we go see it, that I started to realize what a magnificent musician and singer Elvis Presley really was. HE COULD SING EVERYTHING. Any type of music they gave him, he performed as if he was born to do it. I eventually bought a Greatest Hits CD set, and that cemented my admiration for Elvis and my now current feeling that his death was too soon and very tragic.
