My Dad has been a juicer for 30 years. He used to use a juicer but, about ten years ago switched to a blender. He likes keeping the fiber, blenders are cheap and it's much easier to clean up. He still has a juicer that he uses for specific juices but, it doesn't use the juicer every day.

I'm not a juicer, although I suppose I should be. My dad gave me a juicer years ago. It took five minutes to make juice and 30 to clean the juicer. I threw in the towel on that.

Here's the link to the movie..

http://vimeo.com/27719576

It's basically a guy who heals himself of sickness with a 60 day juice fast. It's a good watch. Especially if you're overweight and want a good, healthy, very effective weight loss plan.

This really brought me too tears and I am thinking of doing it but, I don't think I can juice that long because my stomach knows when it don't have solids. However this woke me up and enhanced my Veg choices even more.

I think your stomach knowing when it doesn't have solids is irrelevant. If you have the drive to do it, do it! Check with your family doctor to make sure a juice fast of such a length is safe for you, and do it! If your stomach grumbles a bit, it can go to hell. As long as you're doing it safely, I say go for it. Get healthy, veglady!

Yes I agree I will be talking to doctors about it, I learned that some people does a fast and prayer for a few weeks but they have to have at least small meals to help their stomach. We do have a juicer however most of the parts is still packed away and we won't find it soon enough. However, I rather save this fast for the summer because that is when most of veggies and also fruits are in season or I can do more things but, I am not making excuses just need to adjust more in my diet and lifestyle.

I've been on a juice fast for a week now and have lost four pounds. I was originally a little skeptical as to whether this was fat or not, but I think I can feel the difference. I also worked my way up to juicing by eating about 90% raw fruits and vegetables for a few weeks before finally just switching to 100% juice. It was a little tough in the beginning, but now it's pretty easy. I still occasionally have an emotional desire to actually eat something but no physical cravings whatsoever. I've even been "torturing" myself by looking at recipes of various things that I want to make once I'm off the fast, and I still have no real cravings. It's very odd to have no physical cravings for junk because I've had issues with emotional, compulsive eating for years. This fast hasn't been NEARLY as difficult as I thought it would be, no doubt because my body is getting so much nourishment from the juice. I strongly encourage anyone thinking of doing this to at least give it a try. If jumping right into it intimidates you, then ease into it like I did. (That's probably the better way to do it anyway.) I've been impressed with my results, and I feel good. My brother (who is also juice fasting) has lost much more weight than I have, (20 something pounds at least) but he's a lot heavier than me.

If you are going to do a juice fast, you need to make sure your juices contain plenty of leafy greens. I think some people use too much fruit in their juices and then don't get the results they'd expect. I've been tracking my progress on cronometer.com, and most days I get more than enough of most of the vitamins it recommends. In fact, if I were drinking more juice, nearly everything would be at well over 100%. (expect for selenium...one brazil nut would take care of that, but I'm not eating right now obviously) I just don't always feel like drinking that much juice. *shrug*

P.S. I am also taking a vegan multivitamin to get my vitamin D and B-12. It also helps me get enough Zinc. I was taking that before I ever went on the fast though.

Where did you get the Vegan vitamins? I need to do that. I just take a basic multivitamin. I'm sure there are things there I don't need.

I take Dr. Fuhrman's Vegan multivitamin. He's actually the same doctor featured in the documentary. I suppose they are a little expensive compared to some multivitamins, but I trust these much more. You don't have to worry about getting too much of something and doing more harm to your body than good. It's also a 90 day supply.

That movie is what started this all for me, I did a month juice fast/cleanse . I loved it, I still juice for breakfast most days, and a small one with dinner or large one for dinner. and forks over knives sealed the deal.

I don't understand. Why is drinking juice better than eating fruit? Don't you lose the fiber when you juice?

To me drinking the juice is like giving yourself a 'direct hit' of all of the nutrients, while eating the whole fruit your body needs to go through the digestion process. Sometimes juicing is better if you are wanting to give your digestive system a break for a bit, say during a detox/cleansing period or something.

But as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, fiber is a very important component as well. Alot of folks like to do the 'green smoothies', which is the best of both worlds, just blend everything up and drink it down...you get all of the juice {nutrients} along with all of the fiber.

You do loss a bulk of the fiber, but the extra vitamins you get are worth it. at least I think. and you don't stop having BM, it really cleans your body out, and all the extra liquid is wonderful. Since I stopped my cleanse I have not gained weight but I did try hard the month we were out of our house. living in a hotel, with no real kitchen, I did gain 2 lbs. but with in 2 weeks of living at home I had lost that, only juicing once a day. That and eating no animals :-D

I haven't seen the film. Can I ask what the point of a juice fast is and how many calories are typically consumed while on it? It seems like you'd be getting a high proportion of your calories from sugar.
