Has anyone seen this movie? Its a documentary about a man from Australia, Joe Cross, who comes to the US and does a 60 juice fast while interviewing Americans about their diets. He is overweight and has an autoimmune disorder which he takes prednisone. After 60 days he is off the meds, his blood tests results are perfect and he has lost a ton of weight. One of the men he met along the way, called him in Australia to ask for help. Phil is 425 lbs. He did a 90 day juice fast and totally changed his life. Very inspirational and instructional for those who don't get healthy eating.

Sounds good in theory but in practise I could not imagine myself not eating for that period. Someone would have to put a lock on the fridge and the pantry, hide my car keys, perhaps even keep me under house arrest, that is how determined I am to get to food.

What the hell does drinking juice for 60 (or 90) days teach you about healthy eating?

What's with all the juice fast hate? Who cares? It worked for him.

Sequoia, my "hate" is not toward him, it's the people who are jumping on the bandwagon, uninformed of nutritional requirements and the sheer amount of produce it takes to juice all day long. People are starving themselves potentially hurting themselves, because they didn't do enough research....that's where my problem lies.....they have a direct link to order the breville juicer on the fasting site....the Breville comp. is<br>
making a killing now on people jumping on the bandwagon

I know it's not him you hate.<br><br>
I was asking why so many people are against juice fasts. Yes, people go into them uninformed. But people do that with veganism, too.

i've also heard of a story where a man that had been like jared before subway went on a trek through a desert for 4 days with nothing but a few backpacks full of water. he made it through, badly sun burnt and starved of nutrition, but nearly a skinny man. sometimes people do things out of desperation to force change because they know nothing but the extreme will jar them from the lifestlye they've followed. these uninformed people are just taking their first step towards learning more about health by going into this juice craze over continued sodas and koolaid or whatever they were living on before. it's kind of like seeing a kid dipping a carrot stick in ranch instead of a chicken nugget- "awe look, they're trying to be healthy, how cute. /pat"<br>
it's kind of like how i went vegetarian long before i went vegan. i didn't know everything yet, but the show of mind needed to be vegetarian shows the potential to learn and change for the better, like these guys are doing with the juice and health<br><br>
i do sympathize with your point though jess

Yeah but then they end up getting sick, go back to eating meat , and end up badmouthing veganism. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":(">

i think a one or two day juice fast is ok, but the idea that you're going to shock your system like this, then go back to "regular" eating in between juice fasts is pretty much the basis for an eating disorder.

^^^ true, and I read on one fasting site, that it's a good way to cleanse the bowels of toxins over the course of a couple of days, then start a new "eating healthy" plan....I could even go along with that, but for 30+ days is just rediculous....<br><br>
I've shared all of my anti- juice <b>fasting</b> (aka-starvation) thoughts on a juice fasting threads.........if people think vegan eating is expensive....frig- I couldn't afford to properly juice! it's not like using a vitamix and making smoothies where you get all of the fiber. That's all removed, so you are basically left with just a fructose drink....which is the point, it's easy for digestion.

I don't think I could do a juice fast. The reasons Joe and Phil in the movie did were for health reasons. I don't have health issues, am a normal weight. I did wonder about their protein. I really don't know much about juice fasting. I occasionally make a fruit or green smoothie. It seems like a good way to get a lot of veggies and fruits into your diet, especially if you haven't been eating them consistently - like Joe and Phil.<br><br>
Am I remembering correctly? Did Joe remain on a plant based diet?

Juices, especially vegetable juices, have protein. You can find information for some online at nutrition data.com<br><br>
