Over on vegweb we had a huge thread called the falafel fan club. I was wondering how everyone here feels about falafel.

Everyone who likes falafel should join the club and share there experiences with recipes, new toppings, conversion attempt, etc.

im a big falafel fan, though i dont make it at home, i eat out alot. There is this greek place i go to which makes it into a big patty and puts it on a bun, so its like a falafel burger, which is really good. Falafel and ketchup, yummmm.

I love falafel! First time I hated it, I thought it tasted like cat litter. Now I eat it all the time, in a pita with hummus and some kind of dressing.

...off topic...

I ate quinoa for the first time tonight and it was really good but i burned the roof of my mouth! It's all swollen up and I think it's starting to bleed! I guess I shouldn't have taste-tested it right out of the pot... Bad idea.

I like your attitude!

I have yet to be converted. I have tried falafel I liked very rarely. Most places I've had it, it was very dry and tasteless and needed a lot of sauce to taste any good. But I know it has potential. I generally love anything Middle Eastern, so why not falafel? Bring on the recipies, I'm ready to learn to love it.

Here's my recipe. I'm always modifying it though

1 large can chickpeas

1 small onion

5 cloves garlic

a handfull of fresh parsley

1 stalk celery (optional I just got this idea and have only tried it a few times)

1/2 T cumin

1/2 tsp coriander

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp sea salt

1 tsp nutritional yeast

1/3 cup whole wheat flour

blend all these in a food processor.

put some olive oil in a pan and use a spoon to shape the falafel patties on. Fry them until they are brown and crispy on both sides

I love falafel, but my meal hall does *not* make them well. They're dry and chunky and remind me of week old horse apples.

I'm going to try to make my own when I get back... meal hall wrecks everything!
