i recently read it's better to spread exercise over shorter intervals throughout the day...
it's supposed to keep your metabolic rate up more consistantly...
studies were done v recently with 2 test groups... one doing one long workout and one doing the shorter ones... after the test periods all were given a milkshake... the intervals group burnt off the milkshake faster!
also... variety is important because you muscles get used to doing the same exercises and can become stagnant...
