Obviously, most shampoos and eyebrow waxes contain animal products and/or are tested on animals. However, I am not professional enough when it comes to appearance to cut my own hair and wax my own eyebrows.

Is there such thing as a vegan salon? If not, would it be inappropriate to bring along my own products and ask my hairstylist to use those on me? Any other solutions you can think of?

I don't get my hair washed when I get it cut, just wet down (though now that it's long enough I just cut it myself). I do my own eyebrows too, though if you don't want to wax yourself you could tweeze.

I do tweeze, but even if I tweeze every day my eyebrows sometimes get out of hand, and I like to wax them every once in a while, about every six months. I guess if I found some vegan wax I could probably learn to do it myself.

I'd suggest tweezing instead, too... And either letting your hair grow so it's easier to cut (just trim off ends), or cut it short and choppy, and keep it up yourself. I haven't had a professional haircut since 2002, probably. LOL. I cut my kids' hair and my husband's too. Cheaper too!

There are spas and salons that use only cruelty-free products. I believe Aveda is one of them. Or find a place that uses Paul Mitchell products, for instance. I noticed that one of the vegan sites sold wax - VeganEssentials maybe?

Guess it depends on the area you live in. I am lucky to have several options nearby, although I wish I had more money to take advantage of them more often! I could go for a facial right about now...

Only every 6 months? Geez! I have to get mine done once a month. And then tweeze in between that, otherwise I'd look like a member of Oasis! But I guess that's the downside to having dark hair and pale skin. every...single...hair shows up. It is maddening. I don't get my hair cut professionally, though. I haven't had a "real" (re: new style) haircut since I've been a teenager.

Maybe if you rang and asked the salon in advance you could bring your own hair products for them to use.

I get mine done by a friend so she just uses my stuff, and I'm quite lucky with my eyebrows, they're very blonde and naturally an ok shape so I just pluck.

The beauty school where I get my hair cut uses only Paul Mitchell products. Perhaps you could call around and find out what places use Paul Mitchell, etc. and possibly switch salons. It might be against a salon's policy to use an outside product. Safety issues, etc. They don't know what's really in that bottle you have in your hands, and they have to protect themselves from liability.

I always wash my hair before I go to the salon. I just don't like paying the extra when I can wash my own hair. Then they just wet it there. Also, I've never let them style my hair because I don't like to wear product in my hair. You could try that. As for waxing, see if there's people or salons in your town that thread. I love it. When I lived in Portugal there was a lady I went to that only charged 5 euros. Great price and I preferred her threading because she was a huge perfectionist and I always had a gorgeous face when she was done. Granted it will be more expensive here in the states, I've heard. See if there is a big Indian population in your town or nearby because they are more apt to provide the service for cheaper. Hope that helps.

They also make larger strips for the legs.

It's a small salon, run by one person and I've been going to her since I can remember. I'm guessing she'd let me, it's just that I'm not sure if it's inappropriate to ask. :/

Quote:

Actually, I know of places that thread, but does that work?

Quote:

Ahh, I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. I spend about a half hour every day plucking, though (I'm a perfectionist), and for Christmas my mom got me an eyebrow trimmer. However, after a while, they do get out of hand and the waxes help me out a great deal.

Absolutely. They use the thread in such a manner that it pulls the hair out without aggravating your skin like waxing does. It is a longer process, but if you're going to someone who has been doing it awhile, they've got their method down to a science. If I could find someone here in town that did it and for a reasonable price, I'd be there in a heartbeat. And they use cotton thread to do it, so cruelty-free...well, except for us I guess . Just kidding, it's not that bad.

I cut my own hair and I have terrible brows I tweeze every couple days but I don't know how to do it right and so I just guess.

To answer your question, I'd probably call and see if I could bring my own products.

I was horrible at it when I first started... Have you been doing it a while? I got better after a while.

I dont know whether anyones mentioned it, too lazy to read replies... but for shaping eyebrows what about finding somewhere that does threading?
