Green Day and Blink 182 have some pretty easy songs. But if you go back to the 50's and 60's, most of their songs are three chords, so it will be really easy and really good practice for a beginner. (My first song I learned was Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy.")

When I was learning, I did the oldies songs too. A lot of beetles riffs, lol. They are easy enough to learn and you can easily add the chords in later. I think I learned "birthday" and it is pretty quick to pick up.

If you're cool with fake books, I recommend the Beatles Fake Book here.

Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" runs the first 5 diatonic chords in C major (C, Dm, Em, F, G) - which is sort of a lesson in itself and kinda fun (for me at least).

Windows Media Player has an option to play at half speed and the song doesn't change keys in doing so - select Play >> Play Speed - helpful for figuring stuff out at times.

Good luck and most of all have fun!

Most of Green Day's tabs are easy.

Haha, Zombie was one of the first songs I learned how to play.

Any 60s/70s folk rock. It's stuff you'll recognize most of and I don't think I've ever met a folk rock song with more than 4 chords. They're almost always basic, easy chords too: C, G, F, Em, Am, etc...

I do want to add ... the first song my ex who played guitar tried to teach me was "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" [we dated around Christmas time which is why he chose that one]. The beginning is easy, I never learned the rest. But I thought it was fun to play.

Might not be simple, but something to think about later around Christmas time to try.
