Drew Barrymore has admitted she has given up her strict vegetarian lifestyle in order to enjoy fashion.

The Charlie's Angels star says she's tired of having to shop at clothing stores that don't stock leather.

But she says she still insists on buying products from cosmetics companies that don't test on animals.

"I still don't eat a ton of meat, and I don't wear a ton of leather," she told imdb.com.

"But I just don't put strict limitations on myself anymore. I don't beat myself up. I didn't wear certain designers because I didn't want any animals to suffer for beauty and stuff, and so I literally was dressed by Old Navy at one point.

"I still shop there, happily. And Urban Outfitters and the Gap - I love those stores. You need basics for stability, but eventually I got tired and wanted to play again. Dressing is like an art form - it's so much fun."

How beautifully shallow. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Wow... shallow. And isn't she just shooting herself in the foot by effectively saying, "I used to be really good, but now I don't give a f*** anymore"? Well, balls to her.

I think this is sad b/c ominis may look at her and see veg*nism as a fad, something that's boring and not worth it. Whether she likes it or not, Drew is in a role model position and could have had the power to perhaps persuade many other people to go veg*n. Also, she must have a lot of money and she could certainly higher personal chefs if she couldn't find vegan food and consult fashion experts on what to wear that doesn't contain animal by-products. On the other hand, it is her life, and since there are no laws in place making it illigal to abuse animals, technically she has the right to live however she likes.

It's just sad to see a woman I had respect for give up on her ideals.

I am almost 40, so I have been able to watch Drew grow up...and I don't believe that I have ever seen her being herself. She is always "on"

Even the way she speaks, it seems cutesy and contrived.

I think that she is a prime example of why children should not be raised in Hollywood's spotlight.

I think Drew is going to spend her whole life going through a series of fads, always pretending...

I was not one bit surprised by her switch back.

Yes, Drew...why should you deprive yourself of calfskin belt?

You only live once...so make sure that you put fashion above compassion! What an idiot.

MUSHROOM said it..i agree completely with every single word you said...right on

and actually, i know that being a vegan is considered a fad by many, and a lot of people that i know personally attempt it to be "cool" or fit a certain image that they think is cool at the time...to be honest with you, it really pisses me off when kids say "yeah, i'm vegan.." and write "VEGAN" on everything they own, wear vegan shirts and make a point to tell the world..then a week later say "well, cheese is the meaning of life, so screw it..."

but hey, if they dont want to eat meat for awhile..i'm not gonna complain, fad or not..and i doubt the animals will complain either...[if they even could :/ }

well thats totally off the subject, but i do agree with Mushroom..hehe

I wonder if she got pressure from certain companies. They know she's a role model, and kids will follow her examples, which could mean big losses for them if she continued to be vegan.

If dressing is an artform, then her art must say 'aftermath of mass murdering'

and it is a fact that veg*ns are beating ourselves up, everyday of our lives...No, we can eat meat, we just happen to choose not to. Get thee right. bah.

That selfish little phoney [email protected]#[email protected]!!!!

Sorry, but this really ticks me off -

such blatantly made ignorant statements one has to wonder what her convictions were to begin with.

Whats this business with Old Navy? What the heck is she talking about?!?!?!

Shallow, superficial, stupid selfish little girl.

Doesnt she realize the influence she has on millions of admiring fans?

Why did she have to make such a callous statement like that?

Oh well...at least we still have Alicia.

Yeah, changing your mind is one thing but for someone that was supposedly active for AR (at least PETA made it look that way) it's surprising she'd do an about face like this. Maybe she's trying to get back at someone over there that pissed her off.

I also think this points out why the tactic of providing a long list of so-called "famous vegetarians" most of them really "celebreties" that some veg orgs use to try and convince people to become veg, really isn't such a good idea, with a few exceptions, like George Bernard Shaw, Mohandas Ghandi, and Albert Schweitzer, who were seriously committed life-long (once they started) vegetarians.

It's absurd that she would give up her convictions for fashion purposes. That's ****ing shallow.

**** fashion, and **** old navy, because they use sweatshops (as does the Gap, which is owned by the same company).

I think it's her choice and her life, and I can't understand anyone getting angry over it. She doesn't have to live up to anyone's expectations of her. She's just an actress, people. She's a human being. If someone holds her up as a role model and then is crushed because her convictions changed, it's not her fault -- she didn't ask to be Miss Celebrity Vegan, did she?
