I love skiing, and it's such a wicked workout. I'm lucky enough to live an hour away from some world-class ski hills in the Rockies. I'm actually going out to ski at Sunshine (Banff, Alberta, Canada) tommorow morning.

I love the feeling of strapping some planks to the bottom of my feet and hurtling myself down a mountain side. I also love the burn in your quads you have after a few crazy mogul runs and the aching muscles all over the next day.

Am I the only one?

I have only been skiing one time, when I was younger but I loved it and was fairly decent at it from the get-go. I'd love to go again, but in order to ski downhill, you have to live somewhere where hills exist (i.e. not Oklahoma)!

I absolutely LOVE skiing, and we happen to live only an hour or so away from some great places here in Washington. I haven't gone in years, mostly because of the cost, but am thinking I might have to get back into it soon.

My three kids all snowboard with their school ski/snowboard club and would live on the slopes all winter long if they could.

I vastly enjoy it...however, I don't find it to be cardiovascularly intensive AT ALL.

That's because you're all into the wrong kind of skiing! Downhill skiing is quite a useless skill anyway. (You need a ski lift to get up the hill, which means you usually have to travel a great distance and you need to pay a lot to use it.)

To me, cross-country skiing is the only proper kind of skiing (Now, if only we had snow ...)

I find it is if you are skiing beyond your comfort zone down crazy steep mogul hills and you are terrified. My heart rate goes way up!!!

It's all about the fear my friend

Actually for a workout, I was thinking more in terms of anaerobic rather than aerobic, although I find I do get both!

Just make sure there's snow on the ground first. Otherwise it can be very painful. And silly.

There aren't enough mountains here on the east side. Has anyone ever tried "sktichin" (grabbing onto the bumper of an unsuspecting car)? That's the best I can get around these parts.

I love skiing, but the enjoyment to cost ratio is too low for me. I live 3+ hours from the nearest slopes and I don't have any skis so I have to rent them. It ends up being about $50 to $60 just for equipment and a lift ticket, more at other places. When you add gas for the trip and lodging it's even worse. If it were cheaper and more convenient, I'd get skis and go more often, but that's unlikely to happen.

Without snow, I do hope you're on a skateboard or wearing roller blades.

Having relatives pay is the best. I love family ski trips. I am going on my first totaly non-financed by the family trip to Fernie in February. I think I may experience some sticker shock.

Ebola, I can't wait until blacks are totally comfortable for me. I pretty much only ski black diamonds, but I'm still not the best in super rocky/steep/icy terrain, or in crazy thick glades. I can get down anything, but my goal for the end of this year is to do the same thing, but with style

Heh. The reason I haven't skiied much in the last 10 years is that I don't have family paying for it anymore...

Be careful what you wish for. This made skiing pretty boring for my Dad, so he switched to snowboarding exclusively.

Actually we get tons of ice, so there's plenty of slippery stuff on the ground. But powder? Dream on. In fact I was going to suggest to some of you black diamond pros from out west, if that's not enough of a challenge for you, you should come up to the Poconos and try to ski some of our black diamonds. Pure ice. Arthritis of the kneecaps by the time you're 30.

Seriously!

My parents take my kids on ski vacations now, but expect me to pay for my own way. Gosh, sometimes I hate being a grown-up!

Not to mention not being a corporate lawyer...

One of these days I'll get back out there again. My wife prefers snowboarding, so I might have to give that another try. I tore my ACL doing that, though, so I'm not in a hurry to get back on one.

Ouch Epski. That's awful. Funny too, since skiing is generally harder on your knees (increased chances of twising them at least).

DM- I think I'll stick to my powdery western slopes.
