Our rescued beagle has a nasty case of heartworms and he's off to the vet in the AM for his two-day treatment.<br><br><br><br>
He's such a sweetheart, and he has already become a family member even though we've only had him for a few weeks.<br><br><br><br>
Apparently he was in the wild for quite a bit, so the heartworms aren't a surprise. But we want him back healthy and happy!<br><br><br><br>
So if you could spare a prayer or a good thought for Rufus, we would all appreciate it. That's great that you're helping him get the treatment he needs. Too many people give up on their pets when they discover they have big medical issues.

The same thing happened to me, I took in a stray who was heartworm positive and got her the treatment, it worked! Remember that they must lay low for 30 days after they get home, that was hard for us. Good Luck!

The 30 days is gonna be hard. We've gotten in the habit already of nice long walks for him at least 3 times a day.<br><br><br><br>
It's amazing how much I miss him. I keep wondering where he is, and then I remember. And both boys cried this morning when he left. "No Rufus for two whole days???"

I called this morning. They said he was fine, of course he wasn't really happy with the whole situation, but that's to be expected.<br><br><br><br>
We get to pick him up at 5pm. I cannot wait!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. Rufus is home and happy to be here. We have the 30 days of rest of course, and four more weekly checkups, but we're very glad to have him home safe and sound.

Just a quick update on Rufus. He's doing great! Today was his 2-week post treatment check-up. And thank goodness, he's allowed to go on walks again. Only in the early morning and late evening (because it's so hot here) but that's when me & the man take our separate walks/runs anyway. He can't run yet of course, but going on walks is gonna make him so much happier - he's been a little stir crazy.
