This proposition was authored by the U.S. Humane Society and the Humane Society of Missouri and they had an agenda, Miller tells me by telephone. As written, it was designed to put the breeders out of business.

The new regulations would accomplish that, he says, by pricing even the responsible breeders out of the industry.

Wed have to put in 12 new buildings, with five times the indoor space of what we have now, Miller says. The expanded living quarters would also need heat and air conditioning to comply with the new regulations.

O.M.G. They're trying to make you give adequate shelter and space, a natural right for human beings, to dogs? How *could* they be so insensitive to your business?

You can't sneak anything by Joe the Plumber, who besides being a plumber, he is also completely familiar with raising livestock.

I'm surprised that Missouri has a full 3rd of the puppy mills, and that people can't see the problem here.

What? They're complaining that they have to do their job right? If that's too hard, find a new job!

My sister has been writing a lot of letters about this, the gist of which are: "If you think the voters were inadequately informed when they approved this referandum by a wider margin than that by which you were elected, you should take into account that they were also inadequately informed when they voted for you. You should therefore also introduce legislation to vote your own ***es out of office."

I don't think she wants it to sound professional - she wants to convey how angry she is, and I think she's right. Politicians tend to be more afraid of angry voters, because they see them as more dedicated to swaying other voters.
