My experience of UK Doctors is that they vary wildly from "Hmmm so you broke your leg in a car accident/have a common cold/caught herpes/whatever AND your'e a vegee-tarian, eh? Here's a presciption for 2 cows. Eat them both and come back and see me in the morning ..." to "Good for for you! Just make sure you eat a balanced diet .."

I'm yet to see anything conclusive about the health benefits of a vegan diet. Which is not to say you shouldn't do it (it's certainly a good idea for other reasons), just don't expect it to be magically super healthy.

What does the government have to do your with question though?

A group of my vegan mates and I were discussing this point just the other night.

Most docs in our country seem pretty easy going about it. None of us have had any problems so far. they usually just say 'make sure you eat a balanced diet and keep an eye on your b12'. When i first told my doc that i had gone vegan, she just said I was good for trying it and then printed out a few bits of info from the Internet for me to read.

I had asked my ENT a few days ago if my sinus problems was the dairy I been eating and consuming the last several weeks because my teeth issues, I needed the dairy stuff like ice creams and stuff to eat. He said it was less likely that dairy had any cause unless I am allergic to dairy. I did mention I am going Veg and changing my diet around he didn't sound to excited about it but, at least it will help me feel better.
I think the First Lady and the President we have right now has a good chance of supporting a Vegan and Vegeterian diet since they are promoting healthy eating however, the rest of the government i have no idea. I wish they can give people that are on food assistance programs and or ssi discounts on all foods especially the natural and Veg friendly food.
My husband commented a few days ago at the store why is it that the unhealthy foods are more cheaper then the healthy ones it should be the other way around? I told him its a marketing plow.

No worries! the calcium matrix is laid down in your enamel a long long time ago- when your teeth were still forming when you were a little baby. Calcium stays there and doesn't leave there ever. It simply is impossible.
Your body will leach calcium off other areas if it is so super hugely deprived, which does not happen too often if you are eating a normal diet. Areas like your organs and bones- but it really won't happen.
If you are having problems with your teeth, no need to increase/ consume dairy.

Studies don't lie when they say the majority of vegetarians and vegans are healthier than omnivores. It is not because the diet is necessarily healthier by default, but most veg*ns pay much more attention to what they put in their body on a daily basis.

My doc fully supports my diet, it is certainly better than the diet of most of the people he has to deal with on a daily basis. Your doctor is required to ask you questions to make sure you are still getting all of the required nutrients on a daily basis but assuming all of your vitals are fine and you eat a balanced diet they'll be glad to support your decision.

You must not be looking very hard b/c there is conclusive evidence all over the place. Drs. Dean Ornish and Caldwell Esselstyn have shown that a fruit.veggie centered vegan diet reverses heart disease, and T. Colin Campbell showed meat and dairy's effects on cancer in one of the largest dietary studies ever done--The China Study. As long as you are eating the good stuff, it is pretty magical.

Hey Eljay, LOVE your baby bear picture!! Anyway, I think the government still supports the original FDA "food pyramid" don't they?? If they didn't, how about putting a hefty tax on meat!! too many taxes on everything, at least a MEAT TAX would save us veg'ns money!!!
