Hey! Maybe a strange question...

Has anyone else ever noticed quinoa making them unusually sleepy? I haven't had it in a while... but whenever I do I seem to get VERY tired. Fairly often I have rice/bean/vegetable bowls for dinner, which I feel fine with, but when I do a mix of rice and quinoa (but the same total volume of food) I can barely keep my eyes open and am very lethargic, almost dream-state and hazy...

Is this just a coincidence? I know carb heavy meals like that might be the reason but it only happens with the quinoa involved.

Thanks!

hmmm...I just ate Quinoa last night, and I didn't feel anything like that. Interesting.

Ah, I just looked at the nutritional info, and it contains loads of tryptophan (the thing that makes you sleepy). Makes perfect sense.

Ah yes that would explain it then!! Thank you Maybe it affects some more than others, because my google searches didn't seem to show any relationship between the tiredness and quinoa.... didn't think of looking at the nutritional details though

Quinoa as a sleeping aid- who knew? I'll have to pay attention the next time I have it. I've never noticed.

I can't say I've ever noticed it but I might try eating it more often and seeing if it does, I'd love something to help me get to sleep!

I take melatonin to make me sleep sometimes. I might start eating quinoa at night now.

YES! I absolutely feel fatigue after eating quinoa and even products like pasta containing quinoa. Not only do I feel sleepy, I can hardly do anything. I feel like crawling under a rock which is odd bc I have ADHD and am very active. I have no idea why, but have tried to research causes. I’m hoping to have some answers soon.

I can confirm this. Every time I eat quinoa, I become so so sleepy. The tryptophan content would make sense.
