Do animals without nervous systems feel pain?

Surprisingly, sensation, and pain, does not require nerves. Even in humans, we can sense pain in parts of our bodies that do not have nerve or nerve endings.

See for example

The mechanism transmitting the sensation through the dentin to the pulp is not thoroughly understood in spite of numerous studies that have been made. It is generally agreed upon that dentin does not have nerve fibers and that the sensitivity may be due to changes in the dentinal fibrils.
