Does anyone play an instrument and if so what which one(s)? Ive been playing guitar for the last eighteen years or so. Ive played in bar bands in the past hoping to get a career off the ground as to make music a profession but it never materialized. There have been times during which I rarely picked an instrument up due to demands on my time, but all in all, Ive always played an instrument of some sort. I used to play cello and bass when I was in high school and also took piano lessons on and off. Im also not bad on a drum kit and seem to have a decent ability on any given instrument with the notable exception of the harmonica. Ive been playing guitar quite often as of late and I'm enjoying it more than ever. Over the years, Ive gravitated toward a number of musical genres and styles including rock, blues, metal, classical and jazz. So, are there any other musicians on the forum?

I'd love to learn to play the guitar - but then I'd love to learn most instruments. I play the piano, flute, descant and treble recorder and pennwhistle. I'm also trying to learn to play the bodhran (Irish hand drum), but it is noisy and annoying for the people I live with!!!

I play tenor sax (mainly jazz), bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, and Bb soprano clarinet. I also dabble in piano but I can't play much on it. I love picking up instruments.

Everyone who has posted so far mentioned a sort of "wind" instrument, flute clarinet, sax. I have no luck there. I just can't pick up on them. I wish I could, but I guess there's a knack to it I just don't have. If you have to blow on it, at it, in it, to make it work, forget it.

Also violin and voice, but piano is what I love the most. <3

I'm hoping for a career in music too. I'm going to be starting my own indie label later this year and have some composing/arranging/production work lined up. I'm hyped. I looooove making music.

I'd like to learn more instruments. I really wanna learn the cello. (Unfortunately cellos are rather pricey... ahem.) And I want a toy piano!! They're so cool! :O

i used to play the guitar and cello.

i have a yamaha dgx 500 portable grand piano. i've had it for a few years but i don't play it often enough. i really think i need to get lessons.

i'd start playing the cello again in a heartbeat if i could afford to get one and was able to get lessons. that was the reason i had to quit - we moved and the one i had was rented; there were also no teachers around here.

I guess so. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Wish you all the best. Music is such an awesome thing. It truly is.

Piano. I've been playing around with drums lately, too.

I'm a self-taught guitarist of four years. I play in a punk/ska/hardcore band. I'm *trying* to teach myself piano, so far all I know how to play is the song Brick by Ben Folds Five. I mostly just do simple improv on the piano, but I love making music on guitar in nearly any genre; I started with blues/rock stuff and now play mostly hardcore and ska. I can hold my own on bass and drums as well. I used to play trumpet and trombone, but haven't done so in years.

ps. Good luck Nevelinde! I have hopes to start an indie label, but I don't have much in the way of a plan yet.

I played clarinet through grade school and bass guitar (a bit of guitar as well) throughout my teens but have since put it down for the last few years. It sucks, I used to looove playing bass and even had a few bands in my time, but I am just nowhere near as focused or passionate as I used to be. I also get discouraged easily.. as in, I'm a fast learner and tend become pretty good at something at a rather advanced pace, but the trade off for that is that my talent/ability "caps off" quickly. As soon as I see that I'm no longer improving, I get discouraged and usually end up quitting. I suck

I'm somewhat of an estranged musician these days. I am/was a drummer/percussionist with an emphasis on hand drumming. I've studied drumkit, snare drum, hand drumming (bongos, conga, djembe, dumbek) and auxiliary percussion.

It's been a few years since I last played. I no longer have a kit and it's not easy to fork over the money it takes for a new/used one.

To top it off, I live in an apartment so that would inhibit my ability to practice.

I do plan on getting back into to playing again one of these days.

I've had a bit of experience and lessons with piano, classical guitar and tuba as well but drums were always my love.

Tuba, now that's awesome. Nothing like a good tuba solo!

My main instruments are guitar and fiddle, I play mainly British/Irish/American traditional music, in ceilidh and contra bands and down the pub. I'm learning alto sax, want to learn bass and relearn piano when I get my lazy arse in gear, can play flute and whistle but don't play those regularly any more. I like picking up new (or more usually other people's) instruments and trying to get tunes out of them.
