I've found we have a lot of negativity on here towards doctors and that it would be nice to see who has doctors who support them being vegan?

I've seen two doctors here and both support me being vegan. The only request I've had from one is to take a b12 supplement (which I do). They always asked great questions why I'm vegan and respected that. They go to great lengths to make sure the medicine I am given or taking is vegan friendly. And that to me, means a lot.

Well the first time I went to see my doctor after going vegan I asked what I should be eating ect ect and her response was "Vegan? what is that?" So I explained it to her, she did a blood test, gave me a great list of foods with specific nutrients in it and now fully supports me. I think since the China Study was done more and more doctors are beginning to support the lifestyle.

My doctor never liked the idea of veganism when I told him when I had made the switch, but when I had went to see him recently with my father (my dad was having a follow up after having a heart attack) the doctor actually said, "hey, maybe you should try going vegan like your son."

I bet that made you feel great (the comment not your Father's heart attack)

That is great. Any progress on your dad going vegan?

Recently I went to my doctor. Lab work. Wanted B12 checked because I've never had it checked. I said "I'm a vegan but I'm still this fat" He just shrugged. Works for me. I wouldn't go to an MD who gave me grief.

KrisMTL- I hope your Dad is okay.

It's weird but I'm actually going to see my Dr tomorrow to tell him I'm vegan now, and get some advice. Fingers crossed it goes well!

I've never had a doctor tell me not to be vegetarian or vegan. Ever.

Some doctors have more questions or comments than others but I think I come across as knowledgeable and unwavering in my veg*nism so I'm pretty sure that they can tell anti-veg comments will offend and annoy me and I'll just take my business elsewhere

I also make a point of trying to choose doctors who seem to have more acceptance and familiarity with veg*nism. For example, sometimes I'll racially profile and choose an Indian doctor over a white doctor.

My mom's former MD was vegan and actually believed my mom's move towards a near vegan diet is one of the reasons her liver and other damaged organs healed themselves faster than expected. (She had a botched surgery back in 2003 and acidic bile damaged a lot of her internal organs.) He was strongly pro vegan. Her other doctors usually tell her she should eat red meat for iron. She asks them why it has to be red meat and not a supplement, and they usually agree a supplement would work just as well.

Both my most recent doctors have been supportive of my vegetarianism. They were both of the mindset that eating meat or not eating meat won't make you healthy or unhealthy, it's creating a balanced diet with all the different nutrients. I also needed a blood test, not because I'm vegetarin, I needed it for a medical problem and the blood test revealed that I wasn't lacking in any nutrients.

The wife of my mother's doctor is a vegan and he is a pescatarian. He says he thinks veganism is great, but he just can't give up sea creatures. Still, he got my mother to stop eating red meat and pork. It's a start.

I was low on b12 as an omni. I have not been to the doctor since. I started supplementing since I found I have Celiacs and a malabsorption problem. I also went vegetarian after that and just started veganism. I will wait a year and get my labs done again just to be sure I am getting all that I need.
My omni boyfriend is going to be eating more pescatarian meals since i am the one preparing the meals . He has an open mind though.

If you don't push him he will change over. Because he will see how yummy the meals are and won't feel deprived

My doctor has been supportive of every diet I've been on... from Atkins to vegetarian... as long as it maintains good health. Interestingly my weight and cholesterol numbers were much better on Atkins than they are now as a vegetarian, but if I can get my carbs back in line and my triglycerides/hdl where they should be, everything will be okay.

I would never push anyone. I dont do that. He can do what he wants and he might feel as i do after seeing my point of view and tasting the food.
