How about an era that hasn't happened yet? I always wonder what it'll be like 100 years from now, 200, etc.

I would like to go back millions of years and see the dinosaurs. And I would also like to go 500 years in the future to see what has become of the human race.

But I like the era I've lived in to. I have caught myself several times telling my son "we didn't have that when I was a kid. It's amazing how much technology has progressed in my lifetime.

I would like to have been my age now in the 60s for many reasons including Marilyn Monroe, seeing the moon landing, the awesome music, etc.

I wish I would have been born a million billion years from now, it would have been pretty interesting to see what will be going on at that time.

I like it now I'm too addicted to modern conveniences and an increasingly liberal country. I don't want to have no washing machine or end up at the wrong end of the feudal system.

Maybe the future would be better, but I can't really make an informed choice.

I never really understood what being liberal means. Can someone answer that as well? Or maybe the benefits would be enough.

I think I would 'fit' better in Little House on the Prairie.

Me too! Except I'd prefer to be on a tropical island ("Little House on the Island')

since I used the word I think I'd better justify my meaning of it, even if it isn't the 'real' one.

When I said it wrt modern = liberal, I meant more secularism, a more welfarist state, a greater regard for individualism, etc. Rather than old fashioned feudal systems, or conscription, or being stuck in Victorian times being a child chimney sweep with no education. So I guess I didn't really mean liberalism but more just the kind of political values that we are moving towards in general. (And by 'we' I guess I also mean the UK, not knowing that much about other countries' politics).

I don't think I explained that well.

eta: and wrt "Please explain to me the benefits of being Liberal", I wasn't really strictly talking about 'benefits' so much as I was talking about things moving towards how I prefer them. Being 'liberal' (and again, I question whether I should have used the word at all. I meant something different, I'm sure.) isn't a benefit, it is just one thing that makes me glad I didn't live long ago.

Well, the definition seems to vary from person to person. My father has called me a commie liberal quite a bit in the past. He also refers to "traditional values" and i never know what that's supposed to me either. Maybe TONYSFKASFLKAS can answer that one.

Welfare state seems fair. I also think (for here in the US) that liberalism is/was a moving away from some of the isms like sexism, racism etc.

If I were a white male, I think this would be a question I could think about a little more seriously. But as a woman, there have been few if any times in hte past when I'd have had the opportunities for a life as safe and independent as I have now in the USA. I'll stay in the here and now (or move to Star Trek: TNG--that'd be fine too).

I'm happy where I am right now, timewise, but I'd love to have a time machine so I could visit other times. So many times I'd like to go to, Palaeolithic, Neolithic, I'd like to visit ancient Ur and the bronze age, dark ages, middle ages. I'd like to visit the future, too.
