I can't pronounce it, either, but there's no way I wasn't going to post a word like that on VB on Friday the 13th.

It's a fear of Friday the 13th, a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, the fear of the number 13.

Details here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th

Found this interesting:

Quote:

Tetraphobia, fear of the number 4 in China, Japan, and Korea, it is not uncommon for buildings (including offices, apartments, hotels, hospitals, etc.) to have no 4th floor, and sometimes no floor having the digit 4 (14, 41, etc.) at all. Similarly-numbered rooms are also often omitted in any given floors in buildings. It is likewise common to find no block number ending in 4 in residential complexes. The Chinese pronunciation for the words "die" and "four" are identical, save for tone: "Die" and "four," in Mandarin Chinese, are si3 and si4, respectively, and a similar situation occurs in Cantonese.

It's funny how the number 13 is considered to be lucky in Eastern cultures.

This reminds of something I should have posted in proudest moments thread. I was in a televised academic tournament and the host asked for the definition of triskaidekaphobia. He gave it like half a second before he went on the next question. I buzz in "fear of the number thirteen!" The look on his face was hilarious.

I was only useful for the really obscure questions. Throw a pop culture reference in and I was out of there.

Every building I've been in with 13+ floors always skips 13. I thought it was silly. I don't fear numbers, they're just numbers

or when people at the store freak out when their bill comes to $6.66 - like if they purchase those items the devil will jump out of their shopping bag and eat their cookies or something.

For me, Friday the Thirteenth usually turns out to be a good day. Yesterday was no exeption. So I actually like Friday the thirteenth.

I think unlucky and favorite numbers are equally silly. And, I would get horribly confused if buildings skip the 13th floor, I've never seen this before!

I think US airports don't have a gate 13 either.

no fear of that....but I have a fear of riding in cars. I can never be a passenger. I have to drive no matter what!! I drove myself to the hospital when I went into labor. My husband was so upset. Does anyone know what type of phobia is called??

veggienurse, since the fear of riding in or driving cars is amaxophobia, it sounds like you might have non-auto-amaxophobia, or the fear of riding in a car not driven by yourself.

Yes, I just made that up. (Amaxophobia, though, I did not make up.)

Who's afraid of Big, Bad Friday the 13th? Not me! *pounds chest*

Quote:

Lyrics for Song: I Feel Lucky

Lyrics for Album: Come On, Come On

Well I woke up this morning stumbled out of my rack

I opened up the paper to the page in the back

It only took a minute for my finger to find

My daily dose of destiny, under my sign

My eyes just about popped out of my head

It said "the stars are stacked against you girl, get back in bed"

I feel lucky, I feel lucky, yeah

No Professor Doom gonna stand in my way

Mmmmm, I feel lucky today

Well I strolled down to the corner, gave my numbers to the clerk

The pot's eleven million so I called in sick to work

I bought a pack of Camels, a burrito and a Barq's

Crossed against the light, made a beeline for the park

The sky began to thunder, wind began to moan

I heard a voice above me saying, "girl, you better get back home"

But I feel lucky, oh oh oh, I feel lucky, yeah

No tropical depression gonna steal my sun away

Mmmmm, I feel lucky today

Now eleven million later, I was sitting at the bar

I'd bought the house a double, and the waitress a new car

Dwight Yoakam's in the corner, trying to catch my eye

Lyle Lovett's right beside me with his hand upon my thigh

The moral of this story, it's simple but it's true

Hey the stars might lie, but the numbers never do

I feel lucky, oh oh oh, I feel lucky, yeah

Hey Dwight, hey Lyle, boys, you don't have to fight

Hot dog, I'm feeling lucky tonight

I feel lucky, brrrrr, I feel lucky, yeah

Think I'll flip a coin, I'm a winner either way

Mmmmmm, I feel lucky today
