*** This may be quite foul, so if you don't want to be offended, please do not read on.

I don't know how much substance this thread has, but if there's one thing I love about this place, it's that I can get things off of my chest.

I was scanning a website of miscellaneous videos, when I encountered one called 'Anaconda eats Pig', so I clicked on it. I really know I shouldn't have, but curiosity and all that. So anyway, this person (never shown on-screen) was actually placing one unaware pig at a time into this room containing a large anaconda. The careless pigs were just sniffing around, even right next to the snake, before they were tackled, bound, and then consumed. At one point it actually showed one pig defecating as it was constricted. It was really a disgusting sight in all.

I simply cannot believe the inhumane treatment of these pigs. I mean, feeding something like an anaconda a slab of pork is one thing, but shoving in a live pig.. is below contempt.

I hate the human race.

Most anacondas have to eat live prey, which is why they shouldn't be kept as pets. Not only is it a threat to the human keeping the animal, or anyone brought within range of the animal, but it's not the best for the pigs, either.

Something I do not understand- Why people think watching that is "cool". I can't even watch a video of a snake eating a rat or mouse without getting teary-eyed (animal planet videos).

Are anacondas really feed live pigs?. Why was the anaconda being fed multiple pigs?, don't they only need to eat one animal every few weeks?.

Feeding a snake a slab of meat is not going to work, snakes unlike other carnivores need whole animals for nutrition reasons. Which is why I suspect it's much harder/ impossible to make them vegetarian.

I saw a snake feeding at a zoo once and from what I saw, all snakes (smaller species, not pythons) were being fed pre killed mice with tongs which they readily accepted.

Yep, a lot of snakes, anaconda or not, won't eat anything dead. There are some smaller snakes that you can train to eat thawed prey- but that's about it.

I'm not saying I agree with the video in the least, but the person ended up having a snake- they have to eat some time. Humans aren't meant to eat meat, snakes and such are. That isn't to say he should have recorded it and made it in to entertainment, but still.

This reminds me of the thread from that guy who insisted he was going to feed his snake only tofu. Hahahaha. I need to look that thread up and find out whatever happened to his snake. It was just too funny.

ETA: So I looked it up to see what happened. He claims his dad killed his snake on a riding lawnmower.

I guess when people use the phrase.. "We? Do you have a mouse in your pocket?" he can pull a mouse out of his pocket and tell them yes.

Yes. That was bad.

My eldest brother owns 14 snakes. His snakes like baby mice already dead some of his snakes like the fuzzy ones, some don't touch the fuzzy ones. All he does is wiggle the mouse at the end of the tongs and they strike.

When pythons get bigger, they do have to eat bigger food. Such as rabbits. Some breed of snakes eat other snakes also.

I bet it was a pet of some illegal kind. A whole pig? Couldn't the snake get hurt trying to eat that? Pigs can fight back pretty good. I personally am not going to go looking for the video, but I will ask my brother about it.

I feel bad for the pig and the snake.

That post about feeding a snake tofu?, that doesn't sound funny to me. I'd suspect mental illness or a troll and if mental illness, then it's sad not funny.

Any reasonable person who would even consider making a snake vegetarian would go the route of providing a subsitute meat diet like what is made for cats. Not saying this would work, but it would be indefinatly better then feeding a snake plain tofu.

Speaking of rabbits, wonder why it is socially acceptable to feed a python a rabbit and not a cat. Both are companion animals and both are overpopulated.

I want to say first of all I understand that this is gross to see. BUt you have to understand that people with these types of pets (snakes and reptiles) have to feed them live animals. Bigger snakes take more food (bigger animals). Thats why personally I could never have a snake for a pet.

It seems cruel for the pigs but it would be also cruel to not take care of the snake properly. Its something I would never want to be involved with, let alone watch.

(this reminds me of in 9th grade, our science teacher had a snake and once in awhile he let the class watch him feed it a rat. The entire class was amazed, shouting "wow!" and "awesome!" as the rat was strangled and then injested. I on the other hand sat on the other side of the room sobbing and was upset the rest of the day-I found it a little disturbing that I was the only one who didnt want to take pleasure in a creature dying, even if it was for food).
