Any one want to create a vegan version? You'll be my hero.
Fill in that annoying gap in vegetarian/vegan cuisine - things that you probably shouldn't eat at all, but once a year ... why not.

Actually two other recent fair food creations sound more promising - deep fried soda and deep fried frito pie.

The first sounds promising because the soda can function as a leavener. No need to rely on eggs. Might need something to bind it though. (Deep fried Pepsi [I'm agnostic about the soda brand used, thus 'deep fried soda'] is just a fried pastry made with soda pop if you're having trouble picturing it).

The second is already one of my favorite dishes unfried, frying it would just add to the 'low cuisine' feel I find really charming. Plus, it's a nod to our roots. C. E. Doolin, creator of fritos was a vegetarian. A little background from NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=15377830
Frito pie itself was developed by his wife, who was not.

If they're just flour, water, and kool-aid powder fried, would they not already be vegan?
My guess is there are other ingredients as well. Like donut hole ingredients.
