I am very open to both sides, and have for a while been thinking vegetarianism is what humans should be eating but theres one point raised against vegetarianism that I heard which i can't think of an answer to.

We as humans came here because we are nomadic (we follow the meat). For example in the Winter time the vegetation is all frozen... not the meat.

Then the person who made this point said its our inorganic meat which we all eat that is bad, but humans need organic meat.

So I could use some opinions on this, because up until this point was raised I believed that we as humans should be vegetarians.

I think there's enough living proof out there to dispute this.

Yeah I've been meat free for over thirty years. Last time I checked I was still alive.

Modern people have a very ignorant and skewed view of how humans ate in ancient times. Our nomadic ancestors did not have access to eggs, meat, cheese, and milk 365 days out of the year. There were no fast food drive thrus, no convenience stores, no meat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks like pork rinds and Slim Jims.

Does your friend really want to live like a nomad, or does s/he want to live in modern society? Civilization was made possible by the advent of farmed grains, and the ability to produce it in surplus to tide people over the winter. Your friend is just cherry-picking a random stage of human evolution in order to justify a taste preference.

guys i think your taking this as if I have an agenda to push meat I am actually way more on the vegetarian side by far. Thats why I posted it here because I was hoping you guys would have the answer to this specific question. Im just thinking about this one point is all. Generally when reflecting on the past it supports being a vegetarian (such as we didn't have the farms etc.) which is why I find this one single point interesting.

This forum is for people who know the answer to your question already and do not want to debate it here. So, are you vegetarian, or are you seriously thinking about it?

I've had many debates with omni's over this, but I've got to say I've never had that statement thrown at me before :s

Not every person thinks that being vegetarian is "what humans are meant to be".

Your statement isn't some kind of truth.

Exactly. That's why Ive turned here for help with this line of thought. I fully do believe vegetarianism is probably the best way to go but I certainly do entertain arguments from other sides if its not a stupid one. I know tones of stuff that support vegetarianism but this one point is the best argument I've heard against.

If you look at a chimp's diet, they dont "follow the meat" at all. They actually eat mostly plants, with some termite nests thrown in. They do opportunistically hunt though. But if the animals they hunt are not around, they just go back to eating plants again (and termites nests). We dont have to eat termites nests anymore, we have beans and tofu now. But certainly we are fine.

I am in no way near enough smart to try and answer this, but I guess in a way its something to do with evolution. I think we were meant to survive on vegetation solely, because of the appendix and then with evolution and apposable thumbs, we started hunting. We probably only used to have to eat a little veg to survive, but now out bodies are a little different and we need more.

Really? I think it's one of the stupidest damned arguments I've ever heard.
