I work in a job in which I deal with the public. Because of this I keep having to smell the animal corpses people have eaten. YELCH! People have no idea how disgusting their breath is. I've tried keeping breath mints on my desk so that I can pop one into my mouth and then offer one to whichever walking animal cemetery I'm dealing with as if I'm doing it to be polite. Unfortunately, not everyone accepts the offer.

There's a specialty meat store near where I work which I often walk past on my way to lunch. The stench is atrocious, as is that of any supermarket's death department.

I don't think there's any viable solution to having to smell this rot, but I still needed to vent. Isn't it frustrating to be able to see so clearly when most people can't? People will go right on munching on animal dead bodies and clogging up their arteries and damaging the environment and causing unnecessary suffering to animals, and for these people it's just another ordinary day.

Was it like this with slavery too? Was it a situation in which abolitionists could see clearly how wrong it was, but people whose families had owned slaves for centuries just thought of it as business as usual?

I know it would be pointless to try do lecture people on how foolish their behavior is, so I had to vent somewhere where people would get what I'm talking about. I feel like saying, "Here, chug this mouthwash until you decide to quit putting rotting flesh into your stomach."

The same goes for smokers. They dont understand that the reek and can be smelled from across the room. As for the slavery analogy-- Omnivores think that meat is one of the healthiest things they can eat. I personally think that somehow changing the minds of the Doctors will somehow trickle down. Slavery ended because someone made it illegal to own slaves-- and fought a war over it-- I doubt cows etc., will get the same enthusiasm.

I agree with Gita in the respect that it is the same for the smokers. Unfortunately, people don't realize when they smell that bad.

I think the problem with smokers is that the smoke damages the sensitivity in the nostrils and they have no idea how bad it reeks. I know when I was a smoker I thought that hanging the butt out the car window made it all okay. Boy was I wrong!

It must be the same with meat eaters - if you cook it, grill it, saute it - you must get so used to the smell that you don't realize how "dead" it smells - a lot like old road kill!

I can't shop at our closest grocery store on Friday evenings because they have "burger night" in the cafe/grill area. The grill is right next to the produce section, and I can't stomach shopping for my salads and veggies while the smell of hamburgers wafts through. I've complained, but I guess a lot more people like "burger night" than don't.

My office at work is right next door to the break room. Because of this, I'm forced to smell cooked animal flesh for about 2-3 hours every day. I eat lunch in my office and not in the break room and I still have to deal with the stench. It comes in through the vent, and I get hit with it when I walk by or go into the break room to use the microwave. Plus, the medical records dept. is right outside my office, and some of the MR people will eat there instead of in the break room, so I smell it when I open my office door. The fish smell is the absolute worst.

Ugh.

It's not just their breath - the dead corpse stink comes right out of their pores. People who live in predominantly vegetarian cultures will attest to the stink of meat eaters.

(Not only do meat eaters smell, they also do not taste as good as veg*ns)

That is a good point, but I just want to point out that the Civil War was not primarily about ending slavery. It was to preserve the Union, with or without slavery, whichever was necessary. Slavery officially ended after the war.

Actually I do know technically it was a states right-v.s. government rights battle (sounds familiar still)--- It is just that one of the main "rights" the states fought over was the right to continue holding slaves, as well as the right to seceed, etc. The U.S. Civil War began in 1861 and lasted till 1865. (The North was no nirvana for its low wage factory workers either--the slum conditions in American cities were deplorable). The Emancipation Proclamation making it illegal to own slaves was signed 1-1-1863-- in the middle of the war. It probably was only enforceable after the war because people were shooting at everyone.

Sorry I got off the point of the Thread.

I hate smelling meat cooking... I went for a year without having to smell it very often, and now that I'm home for the summer I'm just appalled at how heavy and greasy and revolting it smells. Who would want to EAT something that smells that unhealthy?!

Confession time: I still love the smell of BBQ chicken and steak

The smell of seafood, dead pigs and miscellaneous (turkey neck, anyone?) make me want to How can anyone eat hot dogs when they literally smell like ass? Even half of my meat-eating friends won't touch them.

Yea. The proclamation wasn't technically a law though. Slavery ended with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

Yea, sorry, this is off topic lol.

People I knew were like that too. I thought it was so dumb though that they ate hamburgers and not hotdogs. I am sure the stuff going into burgers isn't all that aesthetic either. And that was back when I still ate both.
