Over the last 2 weeks I have eaten more dairy then usual, feta cheese/ cheddar and milk, now I usually get a slight break out from iregular periods but now my skin is an acne disaster.<br><br>
Can dairy cause acne? as its the only thing I ate a lot of (for me) over the last two weeks.

Maybe you have a mild intolerance. Such things, not just lactose intolerance, can really screw with skin tone.<br><br>
Or you haven't drank enough pails of water and have replaced them with milk. Water really helps clear your skin, so if your intake dropped...

Apparently there is research that dairy, along with red meat, is one of the main dietary factors that can influence breakouts. <a href="http://acne.about.com/od/acnetriggers/a/milkandacne.htm" target="_blank">http://acne.about.com/od/acnetriggers/a/milkandacne.htm</a> (sources at the end). Research is inconclusive but it's believed that hormones in dairy could be the culprit.

going to cut out the dairy again and see what happens... As for the "aliens" code word for periods <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/blush.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">) my friends and i came up with it as we dont want men to be freaked out every time we have to talk about it - its always a bit funny.

kasandra, I've never had major issues with acne, but I was finding that as time passed it seemed to be getting a little worse. This was throughout the past few years, so as an adult (I rarely got it as a teenager) and a vegetarian that consumed a fair bit of dairy. When I went vegan, my acne almost completely disappeared. I've gone from getting a couple of pimples a month (me at my worst) to maybe a couple every few months. So, yeah, certainly for me dairy seems to be connected to getting acne, and I've read about there being a connection. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

Dairy seemed to be the main cause of my breakouts, at least. My skin's not totally clear now, but it's definitely a LOT better.

Awesome! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"><br><br>
Although I've known that I'm lactose intolerant for years, with one of the symptoms being breakouts, and another one being how your digestive system is acting. So I actually did the opposite of what many vegans do and cut out dairy before I cut out meat. Once I cut out the dairy, my skin calmed down a lot, and once I cut out the meat, now I only have a zit or 2 when, um, the aliens are coming.

It used to be huge breakouts for me, it was depressing being in my 20s and having to put concealer on upwards of 5 places daily!<br><br>
By the way, if you ever miss dairy, coconut milk ice cream is even better than the normal kind. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

erm i wonder if i will be able to find that in cape town... will do a little hunt tomorrow I love ice cream but more Milk Chocolate... so will have to find substitute for that...<br><br>
i went off the contraceptive a year ago and that really helped me with pms etc. hormones are terrible made me a calmer person, lost weight no more moods... but the physical side effect of some break outs is sometimes a bit harsh. never as bad as now thou.

Yeah it's pretty crazy how much my skin changed once I ditched the dairy. Alcohol is another trigger for my acne but I seem to have an alcohol allergy because I would get huge cysts on my face if I even had a sip. Good thing I despise alcohol!<br><br>
I think hormones also play a part but if you're eating dairy you're also ingesting hormones and other funky stuff.

fadeaway1289 - maybe you are on to something - i hardly drink lately but have had a few glasses of champers over the last 2 weeks - huge cysts is how I would describe these buggers on my face...<br><br>
probably lots of truth in Dr Perricones eating plan about foods which cause inflamation in the body.<br><br>
I am going to follow a journal and see what triggers what.

Eliminating dairy didn't make a difference for me. The major cause for me is stress, but I also think there is a difference when I change my towels/pillowcase regularly.
