Hiya!

I'm almost 41 years old and a full-time student in Environmental Studies (with a concentration in evolutionary biology). I'm married (12 years now), no children, and two dogs - a boxer and a dogue de Bordeaux. I'm into fiction writing (novels and screenplays), nature photography, hiking, herb gardening, and cooking.

I started on the path to my current eating preferences Jan 1, 2009 when I gave up eating beef in an effort to avoid growth hormones (I have PCOS and this was something I felt might help that situation and within six months it did, but that's a whole post in and of itself). Then in of June 2010 I went completely meatless, although I do eat organic, cruelty-free dairy and eggs.

Overall I've just tried to become much more aware in the past few years about where my food is actually coming from and what I am putting in my body. I've gone very natural and holistic in just about everything in my home and my deck garden, and I'm doing a lot more organic and naturally grown groceries.

I abhor the cruelty that is rampant in the agriculture business and vehemently believe that the entire system (from the gov't oversight agencies down) needs to be rebooted to eliminate it. I'm honestly not a vegetarian because I feel it's wrong to kill animals for food, I eat a vegetarian diet because it's what is best for me. You won't find me to be particularly receptive to anyone pushing me on this. As with religion and politics and everything else, I respect everyone's choices and personal philosophies, even if I don't agree with them. I just ask the same in return.

I'm looking forward to reading through the boards and learning some new things as well as maybe sharing some things I that know, too.
