Well? Are the stereotypes of your culture, ancestry, ethnicity true about you?

I'm mainly Irish/English with some random stuff thrown in.

I do have an irish temper, but it doesn't come out very often at all. And actualy Im a huge passivist. So bar fights and that aren't true. I do have a high tollerance for liqueur for someone that never gets drunk though.

I don't think it has anything to do with it, but I do like european things better then american ones. It maintains more of a sophistication, then american culture. And metric just makes more sense than this retarded american system. Oh and Irish/English accents are such a huge turn on lol.

I'm Jewish, I have a big nose, my family loves to cook and eat, my dad knows Yiddish, I'm stingy, all of us have dark hair, my dad and brother both have thick curly hair. Yep, we're pretty much your stereotypical Jews. I actually can't think of any Jewish stereotypes that we don't fit.

I'm also Iranian, but other than my skin tone and hair I don't really fit any of the stereotypes.

Does your mother worry and force people to eat? I just saw a movie (Next Stop Greenwich Village with Shelly Winters) that made me think of that.

Well, I guess my mom doesn't, but every other one of my female relatives does. I've actually had to cover my plate with my hands or take it off the table so that someone doesn't pour more food for me

IMO the "stereotypes" have a lot more to do with your upbringing than your ethnic heritage.

I'm swedish & native american but I don't ...uh... hm... what do swedes and native americans stereotypically do?

i'm a combo of scottish/russian/polish/jewish by descent but born and raised in england. i'm pretty pasty looking naturally and blue eyed, with red in my hair (like my scottish mum) but with dark eyes (like my dark and swarthy polish/russian/jewish dads) to confuse the mix. i also have what my dad refers to as scottish feet -short, fat, stumpy and wide, designed for wandering barefoot around craggy marshy hilltops, and a short, wideset body- ideal for pulling a plough, picking potatoes and chasing wild haggises through the glens.

i think i have a double dose combo of the scots/jewish shrewdness with money, and a bit of a jewish (and probably english) dark and wry sense of humour, along with the ability to sell anything to anyone, and talk my way into and outta trouble. i've also inherited (probably by geography) the british politeness, reservedness, and unwillingness to upset the status quo- i'll generally stand in a queue and talk about the weather and silently simmer over an injustice rather than cause a big fuss- i hate big brash outbursts and shows of excessive emotion in others, i find them unnerving, garish and unattractive.

i don't drink tea, read the times newspaper, wear a bowler hat, or carry a black umbrella, and i very rarely feel this urge to paint myself in woad and run down a hillside screaming at the top of my lungs, so i think i'm pretty well adjusted considering.

the sound of bagpipes does have an odd effect on me though, it leaves me feeling overcome with the urge to simultaniously cry mournfully, and rally the troops and kick some ass- which i find very very weird.

Native American, Irish, Czech, German, French, Austrian, Scottish and English. Also, my Czech, German, French and Austrian relatives were Jewish. I could not say that I was exposed to any cultural stereotypes growing up, because I never knew my dad's family and was never close to most of my mother's side. My husband really doesn't display and stereotypical Indian behavior, although a lot of his relatives do.

Perhaps I'm less boorish than the stereotypical American.

On the other hand, I dance as poorly as the stereotypical white.

My Irish half has made me a total lush that wants to go bomb something while singing sad songs when drunk. And of course. My Chinese half has rendered me incapable of pronouncing the letter 'R' and I never use definite or indefinite articles when speaking Hehe well the foregoing was not really true and you knew that, but I have been known to chase boyfriends around saying 'me so horny, me love you long time...".

I know Irish has to do with drinking, so that I may suit . . . Germany . . . um. No idea. And I know nothing of Scotland either.

As for Australia . . . I have an accent. That's about the extent of it.

Quote:

Nationality: Not really. I do think the word hoser is funny though.

Ancestry: Yeah I fit pretty well, but I am not abundantly hairy and I think sauerkraut tastes like crap. Unless it's in a chocolate cake.

I am so many different ethnicities, I probably manage to nail a stereotype in one or two. lol

My husband is Irish and he doesn't hit any of them except the red hair and freckles.

Our youngest is very stubborn and short fused (like me) and his family says it's "the Irish temper", mine says it's "the Scottish temper".

Maybe they're fighting with each other. He's always mad because his Irish and Scottish heritages don't play nice together.

I'm not sure what Greek stereotypes are meant to be, or which I'm supposed to fit. I guess I look Greek, but that's about it. Oh, and I'm used to public displays of affection, if that counts. I've heard many strange things from various people about what Greeks are supposed to be like, but my friends and I don't tend to behave like most of the Greeks one sees in the UK. Well, we don't smoke heavily, or drink endless cups of coffee, or think that Greece is the best place in the world. I don't think stereotypes are really true, in my experience the situation is often quite different than one would expect.

Oh, and a 'stereotype' I've been hearing a lot lately when I'm complaining that's it too hot: "Aren't you Greeks used to the heat?". Hello, heatwaves in the summer and snow in the winter don't make you get used to anything, be it cold or heat. Oh well.
