Sounds like it was more a rouge employee making money on the side more so than the company endorsing this behavior. But whatever, most of us would starve if we self banned ourselves from shopping at grocery stores that sold cruel foods.

To me Foie Gras is crueller than any other food I can think of. I wont eat in a resteraunt that sells it. BTW the link has changed, the comments are actually BETTER (remarkable for daily fail) on this link compared to the other one

Oh I don't know, cruel is cruel (I'm sure someone will post a link to educate me, lol), but the way pigs, chickens and cattle are treated is pretty damn appalling.

Doesn't sound like it was Selfridges' fault; the article says they banned the sale of it three years ago. Selfridges has loads of different retailers (paperchase, topshop, krispy kreme, whatever else) selling their own stuff under its roof, and I think this guy was running his own section under contract with them whilst breaking the terms of it. They gave him the boot when they found out.

That butcher, on the other hand, sounds like a nasty piece of work. "My conscience is clear. Stuffing a goose with grain is like stuffing me with Guinness." THE EFF?

Maybe, but how could he have had it delivered, stored within the premises ? Moreover how did he manage to register the sale at the till ?

The butcher sounds like he is a creep. Making profit out of tortured dead animals isn't something that he'll put down on his CV/resumé.

Most companies that sell out of Selfridges have their own tills, and the article said he was labelling it Chateaubriand which is how it would appear on the till and on the label of the product. Seeing as how even some professional chefs can't tell the difference between certain ingredients without labels, my guess is the average staff member wouldn't have given it a second thought.

I see. The only thing that I have ever bought food from their Food Hall was a doughnut.
