Country Style Fried Apples<br><br>
Category: Side Dishes<br><br><br><br>
Suitable for a: vegan diet<br><br><br><br><br><br>
Ingredients:<br><br>
------------------------------------------------------<br><br><br><br>
8 Granny Smith apples,peeles, cored, and sliced<br><br>
1/4 c Smart Balance or margarine of choice<br><br>
1/2 c brown sugar<br><br>
1 t.cinnamon<br><br>
1/2 t nutmeg<br><br><br><br><br><br>
Instructions:<br><br>
------------------------------------------------------<br><br><br><br>
melt margarine in heavy skillet,on med-low heat<br><br>
lay apples in margarine<br><br>
sprinkle with spices and brown sugar<br><br>
ccok 15 to 20 minutes,turning as the apples brown<br><br>
continue till tender,but not falling apart<br><br><br><br><br><br>
Additional comments:<br><br>
------------------------------------------------------<br><br><br><br>
These would be lovely atop a slice of tofurkey.<br><br>
They are equally fabulous on waffles,or vanilla tofu ice cream!

Mmm I'll have to try it with whole apples!<br><br>
I've been making this almost every night as a snack- but I cut the apples into small pieces and then "fry" them. And then sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on them <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

True.<br><br>
However, I don't think folks will be eating these ten times a day.

Yeah. As delicious as they are,I would definitely place them in the "sometimes<br><br>
food" category.

You can eat stuff fried in olive oil on occasion wiyh no ill effects. Definitely not an everday meal. Although extra virgin olive oil is good for your heart so a little every day won't hurt you (as long as you aren't downing the stuff!)
