what are all your favorite cruelty free cosmetics and bath and body kinda products? I wanna try some new stuff but it's all pretty expensive so I was interested in some of your opinions before I try something new.

which brands and products do you buy regularly? I usually get trader joe's shampoo and conditioner and zia (? i think thats the one) make up. i used to always make my own soap but im too lazy now, lol.

I usually get Nature's Gate Sea Kelp and Aloe shampoos and conditioners. For other bath stuff I use Kiss my Face Pear soap, Trader Joe's Cream Shave and Sunshine Spa Brown Sugar and Tangerine Body scrub. For makeup I also use Zia foundation. Everything else is Beauty without Cruelty.

I like Trader Joe's shampoo & conditioner also, but when I feel like splurging I'll get conditioner from Rusk. I like the bar body soap at Trader Joe's, but I don't remember the brand. I think it's a french-sounding name. I've recently tried Origins foundation, and it seems pretty good. I'm currently using Avalon Vitamin C liquid face soap which is really good...but a little pricey.

Dr. Hauschka! I use the facial products and it's the only brand that seems to agree with my problem skin. It's not that cheap, but it's brilliant. (it's biodynamic) Can't remember their website address but I am sure you can search google.

Also, if you're in the UK, try Lush for bodycare products. They have stuff so yummy you will wanna eat them! Take a peek round www.lush.co.uk if you like. I think they deliver.

Oh, and Weleda!!

[I found an Aussie website that listed Clinique as animal friendly. Does anyone know if that is, in fact, the case?] -edit

Nevermind I found a link on PETA that says Clinique is in fact CRUELTY FREE so yeah they are my fave brand. Expensive but worth it- Esp their foundations.

Clinique is on PETA's 'Companies That Don't Test on Animals' list...

http://www.peta.org/mall/cc/ccdonttest1.html

I see someone edited their post to take credit it for all of my hard research.

I was just about to start a thread just like this, Secura. Mostly because I am pretty much ignorant about make-up, but also because the little make-up I do have is looking old and crusty.

Even though Clinique is listed as "cruelty-free" does that mean that all of their products, besides not being tested on animals, do not contain any animal products as well?

I know Pamela Anderson/Lee/Whatever is also vegan, so I've always wondered what kinds of cosmetics she uses, not that I'm trying to learn any beauty tips from her. I just wonder where she gets her stuff...

I think my bathroom cabinets look a little something like this: shampoo and conditioner--Avalon, deoderant--Alba Botanical (though I'm not sure I reccomend it), shaving paraphenalia--Kiss My Face, facewash--Avalon, soap--Dr. Bronner's, body lotion--Nature's Gate (though I don't think I like it very much--my main motivation in buying it was that it was on sale).

The make-up I do have consists of EcoBella mascara, BWC eyeliner (though I hardly know how to use it), and Hemp Organics lipstick. C'est tout.

When I was at the bookstore last night, I even sat down with one of Bobbi Brown's (the make-up artist) book on beauty trying to figure out what exactly I need to be looking for in make-up. I can't believe I'm rolling towards 25 and I'm a total idiot with regards to make-up.

Hey I am 25 and I hardly own any make up let alone know how to use it. I figure at our age we are young and wrinkle free so who cares? - Not to mention the whole femi-nazi side of my personality heehee. Don't subjugate me damn you!

As far as I know Clinique don't use animal by-products in their make-up. I doubt PETA would list them if they did.

(Thanks, thefragile77!)

I checked the Peta list that Mike posted, and only the starred companies produce completely vegan items. Clinique isn't starred, so I'm interpreting that as that it does use bi-products in all or at least some of its cosmetics. *shrugs*

I use Arbonne products. They use no animal by-products and have never tested on animals. The only thing is you can only get it from a consultant (it's direct marketing).

I really like Paula's Choice skin care line. Check it out at www.paulaschoice.com. I like Arbonne & Clinique makeup. Also, Beauty Without Cruelty has some good makeup. Check out cosmetics at www.veganstore.com. How fun to be shopping for new stuff.

Edit: Don't know why but the Paula's Choice link isn't working but still worth looking at some time.

If anyone is interested in purchasing Arbonne you can use my number when going to the web site at www.arbonne.com. I am not doing it as a business but signed on as a consultant only to get the discount for myself. They do offer a 45 day money back guarantee.

Clinique uses lanolin, bees wax and carmine...Those are the first things that come to mind.

I love beauty/makeup. I love Origins. The powder leaves my skin flawless and the liner stays on all day. Other brands I use include Zuzu Luxe and, Barry M. I plan on trying out Arbone. I go for neon colors and glitter. Origins is easy to find and I say 97% of their stuff is vegan. Only some things contain bee products.

Also not to be grumpy but the idea that femenist can't like/wear makeup is silly. I fight for women's rights and love me a good dose of glitter eyeshadow.

Pamela Anderson is not vegan. She eats at McDonald's and goes out for sushi and ice cream. I read way to many gossip magazines! I think she is just anti-fur/animal testing. I like her though in VIP.
